Kids mountain bike hire and lessons in Les Gets
Kids mountain bike hire and lessons in Les Gets: which shops and bike schools the tourist office lists, ages for lessons, and what to ask before booking.
For kids' mountain bike hire in Les Gets, the tourist office says village sports shops rent children's mountain bikes, BMXs and protectors by the half or full day, but gives no sizes or prices. Two of its hire listings, 360 Outdoor and Yolo Store, mention children's bikes explicitly. For lessons, the tourist office says bike schools start balance-bike sessions from age 3 and generally take children on the bike park from 5 or 6, depending on ability. The hire and bike school overview pages give no prices, so ring or email before you plan a budget.
Kids mountain bike hire in Les Gets
The tourist office's bike hire page lists ten hire partners in the village centre. They are the starting point, but the page gives no children's sizes, ages or prices for any of them. Three listings, each marked by the tourist office as updated in 2026, say something useful:
- 360 Outdoor, at the foot of the slopes, lists "a wide selection of mountain bikes for adults and children", and a range of protective gear. Its listing shows it open every day through 2026.
- Yolo Store, in the village centre, lists "a wide range of models for adults and children", including electric mountain bikes. Its listing gives 14 September to 31 October 2026 and 1 December 2026 to 12 September 2027, and shows no summer 2026 dates.
- Intersport, opposite the ticket office and lifts, was listed as open from 22 May to 13 September 2026. Its listing offers hire of equipment for babies and children without saying whether that includes bikes.
The tourist office also lists Nevada Sports as open from 19 June to 13 September 2026, and several other shops. Its listings flag opening hours as unsecured, so check before you walk over with a child.
On protection, the tourist office says every hire company offers packages with full-face helmets, knee pads, elbow pads and chest protectors. It does not say whether those come in children's sizes. It recommends booking a few weeks ahead in summer, especially for electric and downhill bikes, and says shops usually take a card imprint or deposit. Most offer breakage and theft insurance, which the page strongly recommends, and most price by the half day, full day or run of consecutive days.
Mountain bike lessons for children in Les Gets
The tourist office's mountain bike schools page sets out the ages in one place: sessions from age 3 on a balance bike, which the French call a draisienne, and bike park outings "generally" from 5 or 6, depending on ability. It adds that courses are "not necessarily for toddlers", and that older children should already be able to pedal and balance on a road or flat path. Schools offer packages from one-to-one lessons to intensive courses, and downhill coaching covers switchbacks, jumps and scree.
For an introductory course, a classic mountain bike in good condition will do. For a downhill course the page calls for a full-suspension bike with strong disc brakes, which the schools can advise on hiring.
Les Gets bike school listings
The tourist office's schools page links eleven listings, some of them the same business twice. These are the ones whose listings show a 2026 season, with what each says:
- Bike Experience offers lessons "for an initiation or an improvement, in a bike park or on natural trails, for children and adults", in gravel, enduro, downhill and electric mountain biking. The instructors are state-certified and members of the MCF (Moniteurs Cyclistes Français). One listing gives 24 May to 15 September 2026.
- Les Gets Bike School offers group and private lessons, guided outings and multi-day courses for all levels, with MCF-certified instructors. The listing does not mention children or ages. It gives 24 May to 15 September 2026, and booking by the hour, half day or full day.
- Jean-Luc Tamanini guides riders with or without the lifts on trails adapted to their level, according to his listing, which runs from 29 May to 5 September 2026 and gives no ages.
- 360 Outdoor also appears on the schools page, but its own listing describes hire and sales and mentions no lessons.
Bike Experience's lesson listing shows prices "from €90" without saying per what; Les Gets Bike School's listing gives none. Both give the school's own website, which is where to ask.
Beyond lessons
A DH Kids Cup for ages 7 to 14, run by the Les Gets cycling club and open to all on registration, ran on 4 and 5 July 2026 according to the tourist office's summer 2026 press kit, in French. Check for 2027 dates. Child lift prices are on the lift company's summer price page. The bike park beginners guide lists the green and blue trails suited to a first visit, and the family mountain biking guide covers the free options for younger children.
