Geneva to Les Gets is the usual route in: the airport is 55 km away, and the tourist office gives the drive as about an hour to an hour and a quarter. This guide covers the drive, the train and bus via Cluses or Thonon, transfers and taxis, and getting around once you arrive.

Geneva to Les Gets by car

Geneva Airport is 55 km from the village, and the village is 25 km from the A40 motorway. The tourist office's distance table also gives Lyon at 206 km (about 2 hr) and Annecy at 82 km (about 1 hr 10 min). Paris is 597 km.

Winter tyres and chains

From 1 November to 31 March, every vehicle in Haute-Savoie must have winter tyres or carry snow chains or snow socks. Winter tyres must carry the 3PMSF mark (a mountain with a snowflake). If you hire a car at Geneva, ask for it to be equipped.

Parking in Les Gets

The tourist office lists eight car parks: Les Perrières, the underground Chavannes car park, the Parking des Marais, Colombière, Pressenage, the Lac des Écoles and La Forge among them. Some have electric charging, and five have spaces for people with reduced mobility.

By train and bus

Cluses is the nearest station, 22 km from Les Gets. The tourist office puts the TGV from Paris to Cluses at about 4 hr 30 min, and Paris to Geneva at about 3 hr 30 min, with onward connections via Thonon or Cluses.

Two regional bus lines serve the village, and both run all year with more services in the tourist seasons:

  • Y92, Cluses to Les Gets, Morzine and Avoriaz.
  • Y91, Thonon-les-Bains to Morzine and Les Gets.

The mairie gives the fare as €1.60 a journey at the time of writing. Buses stop at the coach station, La Soulane, at 2549 route des Grandes Alpes. Check the current timetable with Altibus before you travel.

Les Gets transfers and taxis

The tourist office lists local taxis and transfer firms on its getting here page. It covers taxis in the village and transfer companies from Geneva. Compare prices and whether the transfer is shared or private before you book.

Getting around without a car

You can leave the car once you arrive. The free Les Gets ski bus runs five daytime lines in winter, from 7:50 to 18:30, and a night shuttle until midnight, according to the mairie. In summer there are two daytime lines, from 8:45 to 18:55. The PYSAE app shows the buses in real time.

The Balad'Aulps bus links the villages of the valley several times a day in summer and winter, also at €1.60 a journey. From May to November, Getslib' rents electric bikes.

For the ski link to Morzine and the crossing to Avoriaz, see the Les Gets ski resort guide.

Choosing a route from Geneva

Driving takes you door to door, and the village has public car parks and electric charging, but the car must be equipped for winter from November to March. The bus leg costs €1.60, but the train and bus means a change at Cluses and a timetable to work to; check the last bus before you book a late flight. A transfer or taxi takes you from the terminal to the door, and the tourist office's list gives you local firms to compare.

From Lyon, 206 km away, or Annecy, 82 km away, the drive is longer, and the tourist office's distance table is the one to plan by.
