What is the 4 Vallées like?
The 4 Vallées is a single ski area in the Valais, in Switzerland. Its lift company describes it as the largest ski area in Switzerland, with 410 km of slopes. Five resorts share it: Thyon, Veysonnaz, Nendaz, La Tzoumaz and Verbier. Verbier and Thyon are not covered on this site, so this page treats them as part of the area without a guide of their own.
Three of the five have guides here. Nendaz, Veysonnaz and La Tzoumaz are village bases on the domain, each with its own lifts into the ski area.
The ski area is one lift system, not five separate resorts. The question that shapes a week is where to base yourself, and which lifts you will use first each morning.
Where should you stay?
The three villages suit different weeks.

Nendaz is a resort centre with a free funicular up to the Tracouet gondola. Its tourist office calls it the heart of the 4 Vallées. Choose it if you want a base with a resort around it, and the Siviez lifts close by.
Veysonnaz is a small village. Its gondola climbs to a top station at 2,121 metres, which the gondola's own page calls a gateway to the domain. Choose it if you want the lift at the edge of the village.
La Tzoumaz is a quiet village base with a cable car to Savoleyres. The Télémixte, still being finished, is a Verbier-side link from Les Esserts to Savoleyres, not a La Tzoumaz lift, so check its status before you book.
Nendaz
The 4 Vallées' village at the foot of the Tracouet gondola, with a free funicular up from the centre and lifts across to Siviez and Veysonnaz.
Veysonnaz
A small village with its own gondola to 2,121 metres, and slopes that run on to Thyon and Mont-Fort.
La Tzoumaz
A small 4 Vallées village with its own cable car to Savoleyres, at 2,200 metres.
How the villages link
The Nendaz tourist office's ski area page describes two linked sectors. The Printse sector links Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon, and the page gives it 220 km of slopes. The wider 4 Vallées sector links Verbier, Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon through Mont-Fort, the highest point of the domain at 3,330 m.
Siviez, at 1,733 metres, is the join on the Nendaz side. Its tourist office says it gives access to Veysonnaz and Thyon on one side, and to Verbier, the Bagnes valley, Nendaz and Isérables on the other. The Veysonnaz gondola reaches a top station at 2,121 metres, from which the winter pages name the slopes of Thyon and the link to Siviez.
La Tzoumaz reaches the area by its own cable car to Savoleyres, and the lift company's live page lists that line under La Tzoumaz. The official pages sent to this guide do not show the Savoleyres lifts on a 2026/27 winter timetable, so the diagram leaves them out.
The diagram below shows only the links that a page from the lift company or a member tourist office lists for the 2026/27 winter. Where an official page confirms a connection without naming the lift, the link is left out rather than guessed.
Skiing the whole domain
The 410 km figure is the whole domain, not any one village. The Printse sector, shared by Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon, is 220 km of that. The Verbier 4 Vallées site gives 3,330 m as the highest point of the domain, and the Nendaz tourist office places that summit's sunrise event at Mont-Fort.

Nendaz skiing starts from the Tracouet gondola and reaches the high Mont-Fort sector. The Siviez lifts, including the Combatseline and Tortin chairlifts, serve the middle of the Nendaz side. Veysonnaz skiing starts at the village gondola, with the piste de l'Ours and the piste des Mayens named from the top station.
La Tzoumaz skiing starts from its cable car to Savoleyres. Its tourist office publishes no separate km figure for the village, so this guide gives none.
Lift passes
The Nendaz tourist office lists Printse and 4 Vallées lift passes, so check which one covers the sectors you want. The lift company's site shows prices for winter 2026/27 and an early-bird sale, but this guide does not quote them, because prices change each season. Check the current options on the lift company's site before you book.
Getting there
The member guides cover the road and rail routes to each village. The lift company's pages do not give a single route for the whole domain, so check the village pages for current options before you travel.
When to go
At the time of writing, the Nendaz winter lifts schedule for 2026/27 is the most detailed official timetable for the area. It lists the first lifts from 5 December 2026, most of the Tracouet and Veysonnaz lifts from 19 December, and the last lifts running to 18 April 2027, with several sectors closing between 9 and 11 April. The page says the dates depend on snow and that the full winter dates will be announced soon, so confirm before you book a late-season week.
The Nendaz mountain lifts page gives summer running dates for the Tracouet gondola, but no year, so check the page before you travel. The Veysonnaz gondola's page names walks that start from its top station. The La Tzoumaz to Savoleyres cable car was marked closed when its page was checked on 10 October 2026, which is the off-season.
The link to Verbier
The Verbier side of the domain depends on the Télémixte, a lift being built between Les Esserts and Savoleyres. The first phase, from Planards to Savoleyres, has run since December 2025, according to the Verbier 4 Vallées progress reports. The full Les Esserts to Savoleyres line is scheduled to open in winter 2026. The September 2026 progress report describes the final fitting-out, and gives no confirmed opening date.
Until the full line opens, check the live lift information on the day you travel. The Télémixte is a Verbier project, and its status should be read from the Verbier site, not from the La Tzoumaz pages.
