Les Gets is a ski resort and village at 1,172 m on a col in the Haute-Savoie, between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc. Its two ski sectors, Les Chavannes and Mont Chéry, sit either side of the village, and the Chavannes side links on skis to Morzine and on into the Portes du Soleil.

Geneva Airport is about an hour away. In summer the same lifts serve a bike park the tourist office puts at 128 km of trails.

What is Les Gets like?

Les Gets sits on a col at 1,172 m, a village of stone and wooden chalets between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc. The tourist office describes it as sunny all year, which follows from the position: the village is on the pass itself, not at the bottom of a valley.

The ski area wraps around the village. Les Chavannes rises on one side and Mont Chéry on the other, so the lifts are a walk from the centre rather than a bus ride away. That layout, and a long record of teaching children, is why the village sells itself to families.

Skiing here goes back a long way. The tourist office records that Europe's first detachable ski lift was built in wood at Boule de Gomme in 1936, with bicycle seats for chairs. The name itself is said to come from old words for the passages used to bring felled timber down the mountain.

Les Gets is one of 12 French and Swiss villages in the Portes du Soleil. Its own skiing is shared with Morzine, and through Morzine you reach the rest of the circuit.

Skiing in Les Gets

For Les Gets skiing there are two lift passes to choose between: the Les Gets-Morzine area, or the whole Portes du Soleil. For 2026/27 the lifts open partly on Saturday 12 December 2026, fully on Saturday 19 December, and close on Sunday 11 April 2027.

The Les Gets ski area

The Les Gets ski area has two sides. Les Chavannes, above the front de neige, has wide, sunny slopes, the beginner areas and the link to Morzine. Mont Chéry, across the village, is a separate sector that faces Mont Blanc and rises to 1,848 m.

Together with Morzine, the area counts 120 km of pistes and 48 lifts. Beyond Morzine, the Portes du Soleil association counts 600 km of skiing and 12 resorts across the border. Getting to the Avoriaz side means crossing Morzine between the Pleney lifts and the Super Morzine gondola; in winter the Morzine tourist office runs a Little Train between the two, from 23 December 2026 to 8 April 2027.

Les Gets piste map

The tourist office has an interactive piste map, and paper maps are available from the tourist office and lift ticket offices. Use it to plan the crossing to Morzine and the return before the lifts close.

Les Gets lift pass

The lift company, Solegets, publishes its 2026/27 prices online. At the time of writing, a Les Gets-Morzine day pass costs €50 for an adult and €40 for a child aged 5 to 15, and six days cost €276 and €210. The Portes du Soleil costs €69 a day for an adult or €352 for six days. Children under five ski free.

Two cheaper options suit particular skiers. A Mont Chéry day pass costs €26.70 online. The beginner pass covers two carpets, two short surface lifts and a return trip up to Les Chavannes. The Les Gets-Morzine P'tite Glisse pass gives access to 12 lifts and 13 runs: six green, six blue and one red.

Ski schools in Les Gets

The tourist office lists two ski schools and several independent instructors and guides. For ski lessons in Les Gets, the main choices are:

  • The ESF, on the route du Front de Neige. Its Club Piou Piou takes children of 3 and 4, with a version that adds childcare, and it runs groups for older children and teenagers. At the time of writing its 2026/27 bookings had not yet opened.
  • Ecole de Ski 360, also on the route du Front de Neige. It takes children from 3, runs a first-timers' group from 4 and teaches adults in small groups and privately.

The tourist office also lists independent instructors and guiding outfits for lessons and guided skiing.

Les Gets ski hire

The tourist office lists the village's hire shops and says most are close to the lifts, and heated ski lockers can be booked at the foot of the slopes so you don't carry kit back to your accommodation.

Where to stay

The tourist office lists chalets, hotels and apartment residences, and the village centre is close to the lifts on both sides. Les Chavannes and the front de neige suit anyone who wants the beginner areas and the Morzine link nearby. Mont Chéry is across the village, so check which side a property is on before you book.

Les Gets for families

The tourist office calls Les Gets "a family village par excellence", and the practical case rests on a few things. The beginner areas are on the Chavannes side, close to the village. Children under five ski free, and the beginner pass costs less than the full area pass. Both ski schools take children from 3.

Away from the snow, the village has a cinema, a bowling alley, a library and a four-season sledge run, and a carousel by the Maison des Gets. The Museum of Mechanical Music runs guided tours with demonstrations, and the tourist office says the automata hold young children's attention.

Off the slopes in Les Gets

The Museum of Mechanical Music is the village's main sight. It holds more than 1,000 items over 550 m², in the old village near the Maison des Gets: music boxes, mechanical pianos, orchestrions, barrel organs, Decamps automata, a church organ and a merry-go-round from 1871. A visit takes about an hour and a half, the guides play the instruments, and it opens all year.

Beyond that, the tourist office lists Alta Lumina, an immersive evening walk, Perrières Aventures, dog-sled walks and tennis. For 2026/27 it lists the Les Gets Winter Trail on 16 January 2027 and Red Ski Show evenings on 8, 15 and 22 February and 1 March 2027.

Eating and drinking

The village has restaurants, bars and food shops, and the tourist office keeps the current list. Book ahead in the February school holidays.

Les Gets in summer

The lifts reopen for walkers and mountain bikers in summer. In 2026 the Chavannes side ran daily from 19 June to 13 September and Mont Chéry from 19 June to 30 August, with pre-opening weekends for bikes from late May.

The bike park is the main draw: the tourist office puts it at 128 km of marked trails, with 17 downhill trails and a beginners' area at the top of the Chavannes Express. Les Gets hosted the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in 2004 and 2022, and the tourist office lists the 2027 UCI Cycling World Championships for 26 August to 4 September 2027.

Walkers can take the gondola up Mont Chéry for the ridge paths facing Mont Blanc. The Portes du Soleil Multi Pass covers the walkers' lifts, pools, lakes and museums across the 12 villages.

How to get to Les Gets

Geneva Airport is 55 km away, about an hour to an hour and a quarter by road, and the village is 25 km from the A40 motorway. The nearest station is Cluses, 22 km away, linked to Les Gets by the Y92 bus; the Y91 runs from Thonon-les-Bains. The village has several car parks, including the underground Chavannes car park, and electric charging points.

Weather, snow and webcams

The tourist office runs nine webcams, from the front de neige and the village to the top of Mont Chéry, the Chavannes plateau and the Lac des Écoles. Check the Les Gets weather and snow depths on its forecast page, which covers the top and bottom of the area, and the live lift and piste status before you set out.

When to visit Les Gets

For 2026/27 the season runs from 12 December 2026 to 11 April 2027, with the whole area open from 19 December.

  • December: a partial opening first, then the full area from 19 December; Christmas and New Year events in the village.
  • January: the Les Gets Winter Trail on 16 January 2027.
  • February: the French school holidays and Red Ski Show evenings, from 8 February to 1 March 2027. Book lessons and accommodation early.
  • March and April: longer days, and the lifts close on 11 April.
  • Summer: the bike park and walkers' lifts, from late May for bikes to mid-September.

Les Gets vs Morzine

Les Gets and Morzine share a ski area and a lift pass, so the choice is about where you want to wake up.
