Morgins is a ski resort and village at 1,350 m in the canton of Valais, on the border with France. It belongs to the Portes du Soleil, and a 10-seat gondola rises from the village centre to La Foilleuse at 1,850 m.
Morgins skiing runs in two sectors that meet in the village: the Foilleuse side, served by the gondola, and the Corbeau side, where the lifts lead to Super-Châtel. Geneva Airport is about 1 hr 20 min away by road.
What is Morgins like?
Morgins is a village at 1,350 m in the canton of Valais, on the French border, in the Dents du Midi region. The Portes du Soleil describes it as an authentic mountain village of Swiss chalets. It is one of 12 resorts in the Portes du Soleil.
Three spring-water sources are named on the Portes du Soleil's page for the village: Eau Rouge, Fontaines Blanches and Fontaines Jaunes. The village also has a Carillon pour la Paix, a peace bell.
The tourist office, run by the Région Dents du Midi, is at Route du Village 6. At the time of writing its page gives opening hours of 08:30 to 12:00 and 13:30 to 18:00 daily.
Skiing in Morgins
Morgins skiing is part of the Portes du Soleil, and it is run on the Swiss side by Portes du Soleil Suisse SA, the lift company for Champéry, Les Crosets, Champoussin and Morgins. For 2026/27 the whole Portes du Soleil is listed as open from 19 December 2026 to 18 April 2027. The Swiss lift company's timetable has Morgins and Champoussin closing on 4 April 2027, and notes that dates may vary with snow.

The Morgins ski area
The Morgins ski area has two sectors that meet in the village. On the Foilleuse side, the Morgins gondola is a 10-seat cabin lift from the village centre at 1,350 m to La Foilleuse at 1,850 m, a rise of 500 m. It opened in December 2023 and replaced a 3-person detachable chairlift that had been in service since 1983. The Swiss timetable lists the gondola, the Foilleuse carpet and the Truche drag lift opening on 12 and 13 December 2026, with the full Swiss area open from 18 December.
On the Corbeau side, the lifts lead to Châtel. The Châtel lift company says its Espace Liberté is directly linked to Morgins by the Chalet Neuf drag lifts, and calls the Morgins part the Corbeau sector. The tourist office's day tour crosses the village to the Corbeau chairlift for the French sector. The Culet drag lift links the Corbeau sector to Torgon.
The Portes du Soleil page for Morgins lists 19 lifts and 27 slopes at the time of writing: four green, 12 blue, 10 red and one black.
The two sectors are not joined by a lift. The tourist office's route description for a Morgins to Châtel day has skiers crossing the village to reach the Corbeau chairlift. A free winter shuttle, line 1, runs between the Corbeau chairlift and the Morgins gondola. Its tourist office page lists dates for 2025/26, so check the current timetable.
The Portes du Soleil Suisse site describes the whole Portes du Soleil as 600 km of skiing and 208 lifts across 12 resorts. That is the Swiss lift company's figure, and other Portes du Soleil pages use a larger one. The Châtel lift company puts its own Espace Liberté, which includes the Morgins sector and Torgon, at 120 km of runs and 56 lifts.
Morgins piste map
Use the Portes du Soleil Suisse site for the Swiss lift company's maps and timetables, and the live lift page for Morgins for which lifts and slopes are open. The tourist office's day-tripping tours include two that start in Morgins: a Swiss circuit by the Foilleuse summit and Les Crosets, and a route into the French sector by the Corbeau chairlift.
Lift passes
Prices below are CHF for winter 2026/27, from the Swiss lift company's fares page. Adult is ages 26 to 64 and child is 5 to 15. Children under five get a free ticket at the ticket window.
| Pass | Adult | Child |
|---|---|---|
| Portes du Soleil, 1 day | CHF 75 | CHF 56 |
| Portes du Soleil, 6 days | CHF 383 | CHF 287 |
| Swiss area (Champéry, Les Crosets, Champoussin, Morgins), 1 day | CHF 68 | CHF 51 |
The Swiss area also has a season pass, at CHF 941 for an adult and CHF 659 for a child. The fares page lists youth and senior rates, and pedestrian rates for the Morgins lifts. Prices can change, so check the fares page before booking.
Morgins ski hire
The tourist office lists five hire and sales shops in Morgins. Two have detail pages on the tourist office site:
- J&J Sport Rent, at Route de France 2, opposite the gondola. It hires downhill skis, snowshoes, toboggans, cross-country skis and ski touring equipment, and the listing shows it open daily all year. Its site is jjsport.ch.
- Snowline Winter & Summer Sport Life #2, at Route de Bas-Vièze 4. It hires downhill skis, snowboards, ski touring equipment and snowshoes. Its site is snowline.ch.
Ski school and ski lessons
Two schools in the village have tourist office listings.
- Swiss Ski & Snowboard School (ESS), at Route de France 2, has taught in Morgins since 1932. It runs a snow garden, group lessons, private lessons and a junior academy, and its Snowli Morgins programme takes children aged 3 to 5. Instruction is in German, English and French.
- Morgins Ski and Snowboard School (M3S), at Route de Bas-Vièze 4, teaches skiing, snowboarding and telemark, privately or in groups. Its mini club takes children from 3. The listing gives instruction in German, English, Spanish, French and Dutch.
Where to stay
The tourist office has an online booking page for Morgins accommodation, and lists hotels, group chalets and holiday apartments. Two hotels have detail pages showing them open all year:
- Helvetia Hotel, at Route de Bas-Vièze 13, 150 m from the gondola. The listing gives 28 rooms and 68 beds, with a sauna, hammam and jacuzzi. Its site is helvetiahotel.ch.
- Boutique Hôtel Chez Jan, at Route du Village 9. It has 13 rooms, a restaurant, a bar, a terrace and a ski locker. Its site is chezjan.com.
The gondola base is at the village centre, so the question for a Morgins stay is how far you are from it and from the Corbeau lift.
Morgins for families
The Swiss lift company issues free tickets for children under five, and its child fare covers ages 5 to 15. Both ski schools take children from 3: M3S through its mini club, and ESS through Snowli Morgins for ages 3 to 5.

Off the slopes, the outdoor ice rink at the Centre Sportif, Route de France 35, is open in winter. The tourist office lists entry at CHF 3 a day and skate hire at CHF 5 a day, with an ice disco on Saturdays from 5 pm. Pedestrians can also use the gondola, and the Swiss fares page lists separate pedestrian rates.
Things to do in Morgins
The Portes du Soleil's Morgins page lists snowshoeing, ski touring, cross-country skiing and ice skating, and the Centre Sportif has the ice rink. Rates and dates for the rink may change, so check the tourist office listing.
Eating and drinking
Two mountain restaurants have Portes du Soleil listings.
- Restaurant de la Foilleuse, at the top of the Morgins gondola on the Route de la Chaux. It serves locally inspired cuisine, with a self-service bistro in winter. Its listing gives winter opening from 18 December to 4 April, 08:30 to 16:45 daily, and says to book by phone.
- Restaurant des Bochasses, at Route du Jorat 111. It cooks Valais specialities from local, seasonal produce. For winter its listing gives 19 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, on the Bochasses chairlift run. Its site is lesbochasses.ch.
Morgins in summer
The Morgins gondola runs in summer too, for walkers and bikers. The Bikepark Champéry, Les Crosets and Morgins uses the Morgins gondola among its lifts and has up to 11 downhill runs. The Portes du Soleil's Morgins page also lists an e-bike route, the Grand 8, at 47 km, as well as hiking, a swimming pool, tennis and minigolf. Summer opening dates change each year, so use the Portes du Soleil bike park page.
How to get to Morgins
The Région Dents du Midi gives the road distance from Geneva Airport as 128 km, about 1 hr 20 min, and from Lausanne 65 km, about 1 hr. The valley is 15 minutes from the St-Triphon exit on the A9. A Swiss motorway sticker is needed, which the tourist office gives as CHF 40. From the Troistorrents roundabout, the first exit on the right leads up to the resort.
Geneva to Morgins
By rail, the tourist office gives 2 hr 30 min from Geneva Airport and 1 hr 35 min from Lausanne. The route is SBB to Aigle, then the AOMC rack railway towards Champéry as far as Monthey, then TPC bus 61 to Morgins. Bus 61 stops include Monthey station, Troistorrents station, Morgins poste by the gondola, and Morgins Le Corbeau. Since 3 August 2026 it no longer runs via Collombey.
Tickets for bus 61 must be bought on the SBB app or website or at the Morgins tourist office. None are sold on the bus. For timetables and fares, use SBB and TPC.
Weather, snow and webcams
The tourist office lists two Morgins webcams, one at the village and one at La Foilleuse. Its weather page gives forecasts for Morgins, Les Crosets and Champéry, and points to a daily snow report from the lift companies.

When to visit Morgins
For 2026/27 the Swiss timetable lists the Morgins gondola opening on 12 and 13 December 2026, the whole Swiss area from 18 December, and the Portes du Soleil from 19 December. Morgins closes on 4 April 2027, two weeks before the French side of the circuit. All dates may vary with snow.
The gondola and the bike park also run in summer, so Morgins is open in both seasons.
Morgins vs Châtel
Châtel is the French village on the other side of the Corbeau lift. The two meet at the border, and the Châtel lift company counts the Morgins sector as part of its Espace Liberté.
Morgins is on the Swiss side: Swiss francs, the Swiss lift company's pass and a gondola from the village centre. Châtel has its own 120 km area, five sectors and a gondola of its own. A skier based in either village can cross to the other, and the Swiss and French lift companies each sell their own passes, so check which one covers what you plan to ski.
Choose Morgins if you want to start from a Swiss village with the gondola in the centre.
Choose Châtel if you want the larger Espace Liberté as your local area.
