La Tzoumaz is a small Valais village in the 4 Vallées, the ski area it shares with Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Thyon and Verbier. The tourist office describes the 4 Vallées as Switzerland's largest ski area, with 410 kilometres of pistes. From the village, the cable car climbs to Savoleyres, which the tourist office gives at 2,200 metres.

The link to Verbier is the part to check. A new hybrid lift, the Télémixte, is being built between Les Esserts on the Verbier side and Savoleyres. Verbier 4 Vallées says the full line is scheduled to open in winter 2026. The full line was not confirmed open at the time of writing, and no firm date is given.

What is La Tzoumaz like?

La Tzoumaz is a small village in the Valais, and one of the member resorts of the 4 Vallées. The tourist office describes the village as part of the largest skiing area in Switzerland, and it gives the 4 Vallées as 410 kilometres of pistes. The village's own page places the top of Savoleyres at 2,200 metres.

La Tzoumaz suits a ski week where you want a village base on the 4 Vallées. The other member villages on the 4 Vallées site are Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Thyon and Verbier.

Skiing in La Tzoumaz

The La Tzoumaz side of the ski area is reached from the village by a cable car to Savoleyres. The tourist office's winter page names the Vallon d'Arbi freeride area and a funslope among its winter attractions.

The 4 Vallées is the wider ski area. The tourist office's ski area page says it links the Bruson stations to Thyon via Verbier, and the 4 Vallées site lists La Tzoumaz among its member villages, alongside Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Thyon and Verbier. The figure of 410 kilometres of pistes is the whole domain, not the La Tzoumaz side on its own. The tourist office's pages give only the 4 Vallées figure, so this guide does not give a separate one for La Tzoumaz.

The ski area

The tourist office's ski area page does not list the lifts. It links to the interactive map and the lift timetables instead. Use the map to plan a day, and check it on the morning you ski.

The link to Verbier

The Télémixte is the Verbier-side link, a hybrid lift being built to replace two 1970s lifts: the Savoleyres cable car and the Sud ski lift. Per Verbier 4 Vallées, it is a ten-seat cable car from Les Esserts to Savoleyres, with a six-seat chairlift from Les Planards to Savoleyres. Verbier 4 Vallées says the Les Planards to Savoleyres section has been operating since December 2025, and the full Les Esserts to Savoleyres line is scheduled to open in winter 2026. Its latest progress report, dated September 2026, says the works are at the final stages of equipment and finishing.

The official winter 2026/27 timetable lists the Esserts to Savoleyres line. The Verbier 4 Vallées progress reports say the full line is scheduled to open in winter 2026, and this guide does not give a day for it. Check the 4 Vallées live information page before you travel.

Lift passes

The tourist office's pages send you to the 4 Vallées sites for prices and lift passes. Prices change each season, so this guide does not quote them. Check the current options on the La Tzoumaz tourist office home page before you book.

Ski schools

The tourist office's Q&A page, dated winter 2025-2026, says the village has two ski schools. This guide has not checked their 2026/27 status, so check their current group and private lesson options with them directly before you book.

Ski hire

The tourist office's Q&A page, dated winter 2025-2026, says there are sports shops in the village for winter sports equipment. This guide has not checked their 2026/27 status, so check before you go.

Where to stay

The tourist office groups accommodation into hotels, chalets and apartments from private owners, and rental agencies. Its Q&A page also describes group accommodation in the village: a tourist residence of apartments, a B&B for groups and camps, and a small hostel.

This guide has not checked the opening status or prices of any of them, so confirm current availability before you book.

La Tzoumaz for families

The tourist office's Q&A page says the sledge run depends on snow quality and weather, and gives its telephone line as the way to check on the day.

Families who want a walk in the snow can use the marked winter forest trail, which the tourist office says takes about 40 minutes and suits families. It also lists four snowshoe trails at three difficulty levels, plus a new easy trail at Savoleyres.

Things to do in La Tzoumaz

The main activity is the skiing. Beyond it, the tourist office lists the snowshoe trails, the winter forest trail and the freeride area of the Vallon d'Arbi. At the time of writing, the Q&A page says the night ski touring area is open on Wednesdays from 5 to 9 pm, subject to weather. The marked ski touring route runs from the cable car station to Savoleyres, passing Chez Simon.

The tourist office's Q&A page says the swimming pool is open. It also says the ice rink is closed until the end of the season because of technical problems. The page is not dated for 2026/27, so check with the tourist office before you plan around either.

Eating and drinking

The tourist office's Q&A page says a village restaurant offers Swiss and Valais dishes, such as cheese fondue. It also lists altitude restaurants on the ski area, but its page does not name them, so check the interactive map or the tourist office for their current opening.

For basic shopping, the tourist office's Q&A page describes a village shop with winter opening hours on that page. Check them before you travel, as the page is not dated for 2026/27.

La Tzoumaz in summer

The 4 Vallées summer live information page gives the La Tzoumaz to Savoleyres cable car hours of 08:45 to 16:15, although it was marked closed when checked on 10 October 2026. This is a summer page, not a winter timetable. Summer walks and dates for the 2027 season are not sourced in this guide, so check the live information page before you plan a summer visit.

How to get to La Tzoumaz

By car, the tourist office says there is a large free car park at the resort entrance, called Eterpay. Other free car parks are in green zones. This guide does not give a drive time from Geneva or Sion, because the tourist office does not publish one.

By train, the tourist office says to walk from Riddes station, on the CFF line, to the Riddes to Isérables cable car, then take a bus from Isérables to La Tzoumaz. The tourist office's Q&A page links to the CFF and bus timetables. The tourist office's page gives no timetable for the bus, so check it before you travel.

Weather, snow and webcams

The tourist office's home page links to the lift timetable and the ski area map, and the useful information page says to check the interactive map for real-time slope status. The 4 Vallées live information page lists the status and hours of the lifts. This guide did not find webcam views for La Tzoumaz in the tourist office pages it opened, so check the live page for the lifts you plan to use.

When to visit La Tzoumaz

The winter season is the main time to visit. The official winter 2026/27 timetable lists the Savoleyres to La Tzoumaz sector from 5 December 2026 to 11 April 2027, with the La Tzoumaz cable car to Savoleyres running 8.45 am to 4.15 pm, and 8.45 am to 4.30 pm from 13 February 2027. The timetable says opening dates may be delayed depending on snow conditions, so check it before you book.

The Verbier link is the main thing to check before you visit. If the full Les Esserts to Savoleyres line has opened by the time of your trip, it changes the route to Verbier. Until then, this guide has not verified the route from La Tzoumaz to Verbier, so check the live page on the day.

La Tzoumaz vs Nendaz

La Tzoumaz and Nendaz are both member villages of the 4 Vallées ski area. This guide has not checked how Nendaz reaches the slopes. La Tzoumaz has a cable car from the village to Savoleyres at 2,200 metres.

Choose La Tzoumaz if you want a village base on the 4 Vallées, with the cable car to Savoleyres.
