The holiday resort of Haute-Nendaz, in the Valais, stands at 1,365 metres, and is one of the member resorts of the 4 Vallées ski area. The resort's own pages call it the heart of the 4 Vallées. From the village centre, the Tracouet gondola is the lift to take, reached on a free funicular.

The ski area runs on from Nendaz to Siviez, Veysonnaz, Thyon and Mont-Fort, and on to Verbier. Nendaz suits you if you want that large ski area from a traditional Valais village, rather than a base built beside the slopes.

What is Nendaz like?

Nendaz is a Valais village resort. The resort of Haute-Nendaz stands at 1,365 metres above sea level, and the old village, Haute-Nendaz village, sits just below the main holiday resort at 1,252 metres. The resort's own pages describe it as the heart of the 4 Vallées, the ski area it shares with Veysonnaz, Thyon, La Tzoumaz and Verbier.

The resort's page describes the 4 Vallées as more than 400 kilometres of runs in total, and says the resort gives access to that domain. From the resort, a free funicular runs to the departure station of the Tracouet gondola, which is the main way up into the Nendaz skiing.

The resort's page dates its first gondola to 1958.

Nendaz suits a ski week where you want the large 4 Vallées domain from a Valais village base, rather than a resort built beside the slopes.

Skiing in Nendaz

The Nendaz skiing climbs from the resort to the high lifts at Tracouet, Siviez and Mont-Fort, and links into the rest of the 4 Vallées through Siviez, Veysonnaz and Thyon.

The ski area

The tourist office gives the ski area as 410 km of ski runs, and Verbier's official 4 Vallées site gives 410 km of slopes. The highest point of the domain is 3,330 metres, at Mont-Fort.

The Nendaz side of the ski area works in three parts:

  • Tracouet, reached from the resort centre by the funicular and the Tracouet gondola. The winter lifts here include the Prarion and Aviation lifts.
  • Siviez, at 1,733 metres. The Siviez page says the hamlet gives access to Veysonnaz and Thyon on one side, and to Verbier, Nendaz and Isérables on the other. The Combatseline chairlift and the Greppon-Blanc lifts serve it.
  • Mont-Fort, the high sector, served by the Mont-Fort cable car, the Tortin-Gentianes lift and the Gentianes lift. The ski area page also names the Mont-Fort zipline and the Tortin sledge run.

Nendaz is one of the member resorts of the 4 Vallées. Verbier's official 4 Vallées site describes the domain as the largest ski area entirely located in Switzerland, with its highest point at 3,330 metres.

The tourist office says the 4 Vallées sector links Verbier, Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon through Mont-Fort. The Printse sector links Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon. The Veysonnaz gondola runs from Veysonnaz to a top station at 2,121 metres, and in winter gives access to the slopes of Thyon and to Siviez.

Lift passes

The resort's pass prices and options change each season. Check the current ones on the Nendaz tourist office home page, which links to its ski and pass pages. This guide does not quote prices.

Piste map

The mountain lifts page carries the live lift map and each lift's opening status. The ski area page describes the sectors.

Ski schools

The Swiss Ski School Nendaz has offices in the centre of Haute-Nendaz, on Route des Ecluses, and an office in Siviez. Its group lessons for children, teenagers and adults run at Tracouet and Siviez, and it offers private lessons, a family set, and introductory ski touring. Its winter season runs from 1 December 2026 to 30 April 2027. For the youngest, the school runs a Mini Kids Club for children of about two and a half to four.

Where to stay

Nendaz has three places to base yourself, and they suit different weeks:

  • The resort centre, Haute-Nendaz. The funicular to the Tracouet gondola starts from the Plaine des Ecluses, and the Swiss Ski School's main office is on Route des Ecluses.
  • The old village, Haute-Nendaz village, just below the resort at 1,252 metres.
  • Siviez, at 1,733 metres. The tourist office describes it as the gateway to the 4 Vallées, and the Siviez lifts start there in winter.

The funicular leaves from a hotel car park on the Plaine des Ecluses, according to the funicular page. This guide has not verified places to stay, so check current listings before you book.

Nendaz for families

The Swiss Ski School runs a Mini Kids Club for children of about two and a half to four, and group lessons for children, teenagers and adults at Tracouet and Siviez. The winter lifts schedule lists a baby lift at Siviez, open from 5 December 2026 to 12 February 2027, with the Siviez sector's other lifts running into April.

The Tracouet sector has a surface lift called the Tapis du Lac on the winter schedule, running from 19 December 2026. Check with the school which sector suits your child's group before you book. The school's own page lists its season as 1 December 2026 to 30 April 2027, which covers the whole winter schedule.

For adults, the same school offers private lessons at every level, and introductory ski touring and snowshoe hikes outside the piste. This guide does not quote the school's prices, so check the current rates with the school before booking.

Things to do in Nendaz

The funicular from the Plaine des Ecluses to the Tracouet gondola is free of charge and runs all year round, according to the funicular page.

In the ski area, the tourist office names the Tortin sledge run and the Mont-Fort zipline. Both are listed on the ski area page, The zipline's season is not given on the ski area page, so check the mountain lifts page before you plan a day around it.

Eating and drinking

The resort's pages mention mountain restaurants on the slopes. The ski area page notes a meal at 2,200 metres, and the Veysonnaz gondola page lists restaurants among the winter attractions reached from the gondola's top station. This guide does not name individual restaurants, because no current listing was checked for them.

Nendaz in summer

The mountain lifts page gives the summer dates, without a year: the Tracouet gondola runs daily from 27 June to 25 October, and the Combatseline chairlift daily from 27 June to 21 September. The funicular runs all year.

The Veysonnaz gondola gives access to walks from its top station at 2,121 metres. The gondola's page names the Mont-Rouge tour and the bisse de Chervé as starting points. Its season changes, so check the Veysonnaz gondola page before you go.

How to get to Nendaz

Geneva Airport is 165 km from Nendaz, according to the tourist office's getting-there page. Sion, 15 km away, has its own airport. For the transfer time from Geneva, check the current transport options, as the resort does not give one.

By car, take the A9 to Sion and leave at the Sion-Ouest exit towards Nendaz. The resort centre is about 15 km, or 15 minutes, from the motorway exit.

By train, take a train to Sion from anywhere in Switzerland or from European capital cities. Daily buses run from Sion station to Haute-Nendaz. The resort's page does not name the bus operator, and its transport page lists the taxis and shuttles.

Weather, snow and webcams

The resort's webcams page has live cameras at the Combatseline, Tracouet, Mont-Fort, Plan du Fou, Siviez, Lac de Tracouet, Col des Gentianes and the Sommet de l'Ours. The mountain lifts page carries the live status of each lift, The winter lifts schedule adds that dates and times depend on snow conditions, and the schedule page points to its live lift map for the current status.

When to visit Nendaz

The 2026/27 winter lifts schedule starts the ski area in stages. Mont-Fort's lifts are listed from 12 December 2026, the Tracouet lifts from 19 December 2026, and the Siviez sector from 5 December 2026 for some lifts. The schedule runs until mid-April 2027, and the page says that dates depend on snow conditions. The page also says the winter dates will be announced soon, even though it already lists them, so check the winter lifts schedule before you book.

For summer, the mountain lifts page gives the Tracouet gondola as daily until 25 October, and the funicular runs all year.

Two dates to note in April. The schedule says that on 10 and 11 April 2027 the Tracouet sector is only accessible with a Snow Vibes Festival ticket, so a late-season week there may need one. The Alpage lift at Tracouet runs only in peak season and at weekends.

Nendaz vs Veysonnaz

Nendaz and Veysonnaz share the 4 Vallées ski area and the Printse sector, but they reach it from different sides. Nendaz is served by the Tracouet gondola, reached on the funicular from the resort centre, and has the Siviez sector at 1,733 metres. Veysonnaz has its own gondola to a top station at 2,121 metres.

Choose Nendaz if you want a resort centre with the funicular up to the Tracouet gondola, and the Siviez lifts on the same ski area.

Choose Veysonnaz if you want the Veysonnaz gondola to 2,121 metres as your first lift, with the slopes of Thyon close by.
