Veysonnaz is a small mountain village in the Valais, at roughly 1,230 metres, and one of the 4 Vallées ski resorts. The village's own pages describe it as perched on the hillside above the valley. From the village, the Veysonnaz gondola climbs to 2,121 metres.

The ski area that Veysonnaz belongs to runs to 410 kilometres of slopes according to the tourist office's ski area page (its village page gives 400), and links the village to Thyon, Siviez and Mont-Fort, and on to Verbier and Nendaz. Veysonnaz suits a ski week where you want a small village base with the gondola close by, rather than a larger resort.

What is Veysonnaz like?

Veysonnaz is a small mountain village in the Valais, above the Rhône valley. The tourist office gives its altitude as roughly 1,230 metres, and its village page gives about 600 inhabitants and about 300 days of sunshine a year. The page describes the village as perched on the mountainside, with views over the valley.

Veysonnaz is one of the 4 Vallées ski resorts. The tourist office calls it a gateway to the 4 Vallées, which it describes as the largest ski domain in Switzerland. Sion is 15 km away, according to the getting-there page.

Veysonnaz suits a ski week where you want a small village base with a gondola close by. If you want a larger resort centre, look at Nendaz, the neighbouring village on the same ski area.

Skiing in Veysonnaz

The ski area that Veysonnaz belongs to is 410 kilometres of slopes, according to the tourist office's ski area page. The village page gives 400 kilometres, so the two tourist office pages differ. The ski area page splits the runs into 33 per cent blue, 53 per cent red and 14 per cent black, with seven freetracks.

The ski area has two sectors, as the tourist office describes them:

  • The Printse sector, which links Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon, and which the tourist office calls ideal for beginners.
  • The 4 Vallées sector, which links Verbier, Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon through Mont-Fort.

The Veysonnaz gondola reaches the piste de l'Ours and the piste des Mayens, as described below.

The Veysonnaz gondola

The Veysonnaz gondola is the main lift out of the village. The gondola's page describes it as an eight-seater, built in 2005, with a capacity of 1,600 passengers an hour and a ride of about eight minutes. Its top station is at 2,121 metres.

From the top station, the page names the two snow gardens, the piste de l'Ours, the piste des Mayens, the ski slopes of Thyon, and the link to Siviez. It also names the La Combyre and Mont-Rouge restaurants, and the Le Tipi bar.

The gondola is the way the village reaches the rest of the ski area in winter. The tourist office's page says it gives access to the slopes of Thyon and to Siviez, and the Siviez side is where the Combatseline and Tortin chairlifts run.

Lift passes

The Veysonnaz tourist office links to an online shop for lift passes, at shop.nendazveysonnaz.ch. Pass prices and options change each season, so this guide does not quote them. Check the current options on the Veysonnaz tourist office home page before you book.

Piste map

The mountain lifts page groups the lifts by sector. Veysonnaz has the gondola to 2,121 metres. The Siviez side has the Combatseline chairlift and the Tortin chairlift, the Col des Gentianes cable car runs from Tortin, and Mont-Fort has its own cable car. For the lifts that run in a given season, use the lift opening times page, which currently shows the 2026/27 winter dates.

Ski schools

The tourist office lists two ski schools in Veysonnaz, both on Route de Magrappé in the village.

The Swiss Ski School Veysonnaz, at Route de Magrappé 42, teaches skiing, snowboarding and telemark. It offers group lessons for children aged 3 to 12, and private lessons for children and adults. Its page lists adult semi-private lessons from CHF 100 for one morning, with no year given.

Neige Aventure, at Route de Magrappé 36, offers ski and snowboard lessons for children, teenagers and adults, from beginner to instructor level. Its Mini Kids Club takes children aged 3 to 5, and its Kids Club takes those aged 5 to 12. The page gives no season dates.

Where to stay

The tourist office groups its accommodation into hotels, chalets and apartments, guesthouses and B&Bs, and mountain huts, and it runs an accommodation request form. This guide does not name a place to stay. Check current listings before you book.

The village centre sits on Route de Pra, Route de Magrappé and Rue du Centre Village, all in 1993 Veysonnaz. The tourist office's A to Z directory lists the village's services along those roads.

Veysonnaz for families

Swiss Ski School Veysonnaz runs group lessons for children aged 3 to 12, offers lunch for children aged 6 to 12, and runs Saturday beginners' courses for children. Neige Aventure runs the Mini Kids Club for ages 3 to 5 and the Kids Club for ages 5 to 12.

The tourist office's directory lists a supermarket on Rue du Centre Village, and a bakery and a butcher on Route de Pra. The gondola page also names two snow gardens among the winter attractions reached from its top station.

Things to do in Veysonnaz

The main winter attraction is the skiing itself. The gondola page names the piste de l'Ours and the piste des Mayens as runs from the top station, and the tourist office lists Mayens de l'Ours and Les Mayens among its webcams.

The tourist office's directory lists sports and rental shops in the village, on Route de Magrappé and Route de Pra. This guide does not list their opening hours.

Eating and drinking

On the mountain, the gondola page names La Combyre and the Mont-Rouge restaurant, and the Le Tipi bar, as places to stop. The ski area page also names Les Chottes as a mountain restaurant. This guide does not list opening hours, so check before you book a table.

Veysonnaz in summer

The summer 2026 timetable on the tourist office's summer lift opening times page ran the Veysonnaz gondola from 27 June to 23 August 2026, from 09:00 to 16:30 daily. Those dates have passed. The page does not yet show 2027 dates, so check it again before you plan a summer visit.

The gondola's top station is the start for several walks: the Mont-Rouge tour, the bisse de Chervé, and the masks path, according to the gondola page. The same summer timetable runs the Tortin, Tortin-Gentianes and Mont-Fort lifts, and the Combatseline chairlift from the Siviez side, into September.

How to get to Veysonnaz

Geneva Airport is 165 kilometres from Veysonnaz, according to the tourist office's getting-there page. The page gives no drive time from Geneva, so check current transport options. Sion, 15 kilometres away, has its own airport, the page says.

By car, take the A9 to the Sion-Ouest exit, towards Nendaz. The drive from that exit to the resort centre is 13 kilometres, or about 15 minutes.

By train, the tourist office says trains reach Sion from all European capital cities and every region of Switzerland. Daily bus connections run from Sion railway station to Veysonnaz. The page does not name the bus operator, and it gives no timetable.

Weather, snow and webcams

The tourist office's webcams page lists live cameras at the Sommet de l'Ours, Mont-Fort, Plan du Fou, the Mayens de l'Ours, Les Mayens, Combatseline and Col des Gentianes, plus four further views at Tracouet, Lac de Tracouet, Siviez and Alpage de Balavaux. The mountain lifts page is the place to check lift information. The webcams page has no snow report, so use the lift page for the current state of the lifts.

When to visit Veysonnaz

At the time of writing, the tourist office's lift opening times page lists winter 2026/27 dates, running from December 2026 to April 2027. The page says the dates depend on snow conditions, and it lists each lift on its own row, so check the gondola's row there before you book.

In summer, the tourist office names the walks that start from the gondola's top station.

Veysonnaz vs Nendaz

Veysonnaz and Nendaz share the 4 Vallées ski area and the Printse sector, but they reach it from different sides. Nendaz is served by the Tracouet gondola, which runs from the resort of Nendaz. Veysonnaz is served by its own gondola to 2,121 metres, starting from a village at roughly 1,230 metres.

Choose Veysonnaz if you want a small village with a gondola at its edge, and the Thyon slopes reached from the gondola top station.

Choose Nendaz if you want a larger resort centre, with the Tracouet gondola and the Siviez lifts on the same ski area.
