Venosc is a small village in the Vénéon valley, at the edge of the Écrins National Park. Since 2017 it has been part of the commune of Les Deux Alpes, which also includes Mont de Lans.

A gondola runs from the village to the Les 2 Alpes resort in about eight minutes. Venosc is a base for the ski area, not a resort of its own. This guide covers the gondola, where to stay and eat, and how the village fits with Les 2 Alpes.

What is Venosc like?

Venosc is a small village in the Vénéon valley, at the edge of the Écrins National Park. The official Les 2 Alpes site describes it as a village of century-old houses, crafts and a forge. It sits about eight minutes below the ski area by gondola.

Since 2017 Venosc has been one of two former communes that make up the Les Deux Alpes commune, with Mont de Lans. The resort grew from the two alpages, or high pastures, above them.

The Venosc gondola runs from the village to the Les 2 Alpes resort in about eight minutes. The official Les 2 Alpes site says the link has existed since 1972. It is a gondola, not a chairlift. The village page gives opening hours of 7:00 to 19:30, but it does not say which season they apply to. Check the current hours on the Les 2 Alpes website before you travel.

A separate Super Venosc gondola starts from the Alpe de Venosc at 1,696 metres. The official history page dates it to 2022.

Lift passes

The official Les 2 Alpes site says the gondola is included in ski and pedestrian passes. Without a pass, the village page quotes €6.70 per person for a return trip. The pass page lists a Venosc access pass at €3.50 for autumn and winter, limited to the gondola, and says it comes in several durations. The pages do not explain how the two prices relate. Check current prices on the pass page before you buy.

Where to stay

The most clearly listed place to stay in Venosc on the official Les 2 Alpes site is the Campsite Le Champ du Moulin, at 102 route du Grand Pré. It is a three-star campsite that offers pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, along with chalets, furnished tents and a bungalow rental. The official site says it is about 400 metres from the gondola. Its winter opening, for 2026/27, is shown as 18 December 2026 to 13 March 2027, and it is marked open every day. Its summer period on the same page is 31 May to 3 September 2026.

The official Les 2 Alpes site has a separate accommodation section for the wider resort. This guide has not checked the hotels and chalets listed there.

Things to do in Venosc

The Venosc village guided visit runs every Tuesday at 10am, according to the official Venosc village page. The official site also lists a village activities page for Venosc.

The Balade des Ardoisiers is a heritage trail in the village. The official history page calls it an open-air heritage trail, and notes slate mining in the Vénéon valley until 1972.

Eating and drinking

Two restaurants in Venosc are listed on the official Les 2 Alpes site with their own pages for winter 2026/27:

  • Restaurant Douces Gourmandises, 30 rue de la Montagne, Le Courtil. The official listing is for 1 September 2026 to 30 April 2027, is marked open every day, and says dinner needs a reservation. The page warns that hours are not guaranteed on the day, so check before going.
  • Restaurant Le Cours de la Vie, 59 rue de la Montagne, Le Courtil. Its official listing shows homemade dishes with vegetarian options. The page gives winter prices for 2026/27 and lists a Monday closure. Reservations are recommended.

Venosc in summer

The campsite page lists its summer opening as 31 May to 3 September 2026. The official pass page lists a summer Venosc Aqua pass, which includes a gondola round trip and pool entry, marked "coming soon". This guide has not confirmed the summer gondola timetable or the pass's price. Check the official Les 2 Alpes site for summer dates before you plan around them.

How to get to Venosc

The Venosc gondola is the link to the Les 2 Alpes resort, in about eight minutes. This guide has not verified the road or bus routes into Venosc from the valley or from Grenoble, so check the official Les 2 Alpes access information before you travel.

Weather, snow and webcams

The official Les 2 Alpes site has webcams on the high ski area, including locations at 3,400 metres and on the Vallée Blanche. It does not show a camera in Venosc village or on the Venosc gondola. The live piste status page is the place to check snow and lift openings. This guide has not linked to an official forecast page, because none was confirmed.

When to visit Venosc

At the time of writing, the official Les 2 Alpes homepage gives the 2026/27 winter season as 28 November 2026 to 2 May 2027. The gondola's hours and summer timetable are set out above, and both should be checked on the official site before you travel.

Venosc vs Les 2 Alpes

Les 2 Alpes is the ski area, with the lifts, the high slopes and the webcams at 3,400 metres. Venosc is the village at the bottom of the Venosc gondola, eight minutes below the resort by the official account.

Choose Les 2 Alpes for the lifts and the high ski area. Choose Venosc for a village base that is linked to the resort by the gondola.
