Oz-en-Oisans is a ski resort on the west side of the Alpe d'Huez ski area. Its ski station, Oz 3300, sits at 1,350 m, and gondolas leave it for Alpe d'Huez and for L'Alpette, Vaujany and the Dôme des Rousses.

The commune is more than the station. Oz village and ten other hamlets lie below, and the Eau d'Olle Express gondola brings you up from Allemond in the valley.

What is Oz-en-Oisans like?

Oz-en-Oisans is two things. The commune lies between the Belledonne range and the Grandes Rousses and, by the tourist office's count, is made up of 11 hamlets and a ski station, spread from 711 m to 3,330 m. It is one of the largest communes in the Oisans.

The hamlets are Oz Village, Le Roberand, Le Bessey, Sardonne, L'Île d'Oz, Le Boulangeard, Le Pontonnier, La Beurrière, La Voûte, Le Pré de l'Arche and L'Enversin. The tourist office points to old barns, wash houses and fountains, and to the 19th-century church in Oz Village with its square, pyramid-topped bell tower.

The ski station is Oz 3300, at 1,350 m. The tourist office describes it as a pedestrian, ski-in, ski-out station of wood- and stone-clad residences and chalets among fir trees, where skiers slalom between the shops to their front doors. When people talk about skiing at Oz, this is where they mean. The hamlet of L'Enversin d'Oz is about 15 km by road from the station, so check which part of the commune an address is in before you book.

Skiing in Oz-en-Oisans

Oz 3300 is one of the five resorts of the Alpe d'Huez ski area, with Alpe d'Huez, Vaujany, Auris-en-Oisans and Villard-Reculas. The Oz tourist office gives the area as 250 km of runs, 68 lifts and 963 snow cannons, with the Pic Blanc at 3,330 m as the high point. The lifts are run by SATA Group under its AEON brand.

Oz en Oisans ski area

Two gondolas leave the station. The tourist office lists the links from Oz 3300 as:

  • Alpe d'Huez, by the Poutran gondola.
  • Vaujany and the Montfrais area, by the Alpette gondola and then the Clos Giraud lift, which mixes chairs and cabins.
  • The Dôme des Rousses at 2,800 m, by the Alpette gondola and the Dôme des Rousses cable car.

L'Alpette and the Plateau des Lacs sit at about 2,100 m on the tourist office's figure; the piste map marks L'Alpette at 2,050 m. Coming home, the long blue Chevreuils run brings you back down to the station, and the tourist office says the station's exposure and snowmaking keep the return on skis possible all season.

The big descents start at the top. The Sarenne run drops from the Pic Blanc at 3,330 m to the Gorges de Sarenne at 1,510 m over 16 km. The tourist office also describes a top-to-bottom run of 2,205 m of vertical, about an hour and a half of skiing without a lift: the black Tunnel run, the red Rousses, the Alpette plateau, the blue Chalets, then the black La Fare through the forest to L'Enversin d'Oz at 1,125 m.

The piste map's table of last returns includes the Poutran and Alpette gondolas and the Eau d'Olle Express. If you have skied across to Alpe d'Huez, check those times on the day.

Oz en Oisans piste map

The tourist office publishes the Alpe d'Huez ski area piste map as a PDF. The version online at the time of writing is for 2025-26; the lift names around Oz, including Poutran, L'Alpette, Eau d'Olle Express and Olmet, are marked on it. Lift and piste openings are on the tourist office's live lifts page.

Oz en Oisans lift pass

There are two passes to choose between. The Oz-Vaujany sector pass covers 53 km of runs which the tourist office describes as suited to beginners and intermediates. The full Espace Alpe d'Huez pass covers the whole 250 km, including the Pic Blanc lifts for Sarenne. Prices change each season; check the SATA ski pass site for 2026/27.

Oz en Oisans ski hire

The tourist office lists ski-hire shops at Oz 3300. Two have detail pages:

  • Ski Tonic - Skiset, in the Résidence Les Pistes, rents skis, snowboards, toboggans, snowshoes, telemark kit and snowscoots, has a repair workshop, and runs heated ski lockers opposite the Poutran gondola.
  • Boîte à Skis - Sport 2000, in the Résidence Les Airelles, rents skis, snowboards and touring kit, has its own servicing workshop, and sells accessories and clothing.

The tourist office's ski-hire page takes bookings.

Ski school and ski lessons in Oz en Oisans

The ESF runs the Club Piou-Piou in a secure area in the middle of the station, for children from three to under six, in half-day sessions of at least 2 hr 30 for one to six consecutive days. It has added a new intermediate group, Sifflote la Marmotte, and works with the nursery so that parents can ski. The tourist office lists it as open daily from 6 December 2026 to 19 April 2027; bookings are on the ESF Oz-en-Oisans site.

École de Ski Active gives private ski and snowboard lessons, including freeride and telemark, for groups of up to five, from its base at the Ski Set shop. The tourist office lists it as open from 6 December 2026 to 19 April 2027.

Where to stay

The station is where most visitors stay. The tourist office describes residences, chalets and a ski-in, ski-out layout in which you reach your door on skis. The Hôtel Le Timberlodge houses the station's pool and spa. The hamlets below are quieter but are not on the snow; in school holidays the Oz Access minibus links them to the station (see below). The tourist office's accommodation pages list what is available.

Oz-en-Oisans for families

The station is pedestrian. The ESF's Club Piou-Piou (above) works with the Crèche Le Nid Alpin. The tourist office points families to Marcel's Farm, a fun run in the Grandes Rousses 1800 sector with whoops, a tunnel, a slalom and coloured figures, and to beginners' areas, tobogganing and walks in the snow. The piste map also marks a toboggan area and a family boarder cross at L'Alpette.

Eating and drinking

Oz en Oisans restaurants are listed by the tourist office, at the station and on the slopes. Two it describes:

  • La Grange, at L'Alpette (2,050 m) by the Lac Carrelet, is a mountain chalet serving regional dishes, wood-fired pizzas and home-made desserts, with a panoramic terrace. You reach it on skis, by the Alpette gondola, by the Vaujany cable car or on foot along the lakes path from Alpe d'Huez. It is listed for 5 December 2026 to 25 April 2027, 9 am to 5 pm, weather permitting.

Oz-en-Oisans in summer

Oz 3300 sits in the middle of the Alpe d'Huez mountain-bike area. The tourist office gives the area as more than 330 km of marked trails, 14 permanent downhill runs, ten enduro routes and four bike parks, one of them at Oz 3300, with bike-wash points at Oz, Vaujany, Alpe d'Huez, Auris-en-Oisans and Allemond. The summer calendar includes the Sardonne fête.

How to get to Oz-en-Oisans

The tourist office puts Oz 3300 55 km south of Grenoble, about 50 minutes to an hour by road. Take the A480 towards Sisteron and Gap, leave at exit 8 (Vizille / Stations de l'Oisans), and follow the RN85 and D1091 towards Bourg-d'Oisans for about 35 km. At the Rochetaillée junction, 7 km before Bourg-d'Oisans, turn left towards Allemond, Oz and Vaujany, then follow the D44a. The tourist office suggests "38114 Oz, l'Olmet" for satnav.

The tourist office gives the distances to the airports as 95 km to Grenoble Isère, 145 km to Lyon Saint-Exupéry and 200 km to Geneva.

Grenoble to Oz en Oisans

The bus station in Grenoble is next to the railway station. Transisère line T75 runs daily from Grenoble to Rochetaillée, 10 km from the station. From there, on-demand line T70 continues to Allemond, 7 km from the station; get off at Plan Barbier and take the Eau d'Olle Express gondola up to Oz 3300. Timetables are on itinisere.fr.

The Eau d'Olle Express takes eight minutes in ten-seat cabins, and you step out at the station ready to ski. In school holidays, the Oz Access minibus links the hamlets to the station, Monday to Friday, booked online by 5 pm the day before; details are on the Oz Access page.

Weather, snow and webcams

The station is at 1,350 m and the Pic Blanc at 3,330 m, so conditions at the top can be very different. Check before you set out.
