Auris-en-Oisans is a family ski resort at 1,600 m on the south side of the Grandes Rousses, facing the Meije and the Écrins. Auris has its own ski area of 19 runs and is one of the five resorts of the Alpe d'Huez ski area, linked to it by chairlift.
What is Auris-en-Oisans like?
Auris-en-Oisans is a small ski station at 1,600 m on the south-facing side of the Grandes Rousses, in Isère. The tourist office describes it as looking out over the snow-covered peaks of the Écrins, with the glaciers of the Meije and Les Deux Alpes opposite.
It is one of the five resorts of the Alpe d'Huez ski area, alongside Alpe d'Huez, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany and Villard-Reculas. The tourist office calls it a family station on a human scale: the shops, restaurants, services and the start of the pistes are all close together, and the station is ski-in, ski-out.
The commune also reaches down into the valley. The bus stop called "Auris-en-Oisans" on the regional lines serves the hamlet of Le Clapier d'Auris at 740 m, not the ski station, so check which part of Auris an address or a timetable means.
Skiing in Auris-en-Oisans
Auris has two levels of skiing. Its own ski area, on the lift company's figures, has 19 runs over 45 km, from 2,176 m below the Signal de l'Homme down to La Garde at 1,450 m. Beyond that, the Auris tourist office gives the Espace Alpe d'Huez as 250 km of pistes and 111 runs, with 67 lifts, and the Pic Blanc at 3,330 m as its highest point.

The Auris en Oisans ski area
The lift company's Auris page describes the local skiing. Children have the Jacques the Woodcutter forest trail; beginners have dedicated, secured areas close to the heart of the station; and the black Maronne run is the steep option, served by the two-seat Maronne chairlift through the fir forest.
For the rest of the ski area, the tourist office names the Alpauris chairlift as the quick link to Alpe d'Huez, and the lift company's page names the Chalvet chairlift as the direct connection to the Espace Alpe d'Huez. Coming the other way, the lift company says the Sarenne run, 16 km from the Pic Blanc, finishes right in Auris-en-Oisans village. Check the live lift and piste openings before you cross over, and the time of the last lift back.
Auris en Oisans piste map
The lift company publishes the Auris en Oisans piste map alongside a plan of the station, and the tourist office links to the full Espace Alpe d'Huez map. Use the Alpe d'Huez map to plan the link and the return.
Auris en Oisans lift pass
The lift company sells two kinds of pass from Auris: the Auris-en-Oisans pass for the local 45 km, and the Alpe d'Huez ski area pass for the whole 250 km. At the time of writing, its early-booking season prices were €498.50 for the Auris season pass, until 20 November 2026, and €1,038.50 for the Alpe d'Huez annual pass, also until 20 November 2026. Day and week prices are on the lift company's ski-pass site, where passes bought online are delivered to your home within 10 days or kept for collection at the resort.
Auris en Oisans ski hire
The tourist office lists three hire shops in the station. Its ski hire page links to each, and suggests booking your kit in advance so you can head straight to the slopes on arrival.
Ski school and ski lessons in Auris en Oisans
The ESF Auris, at 9 chemin du Front de neige, is the village's ski school. It teaches skiing, snowboarding, telemark and cross-country, in group or private lessons, and also runs off-piste outings, ski touring, a freeride and freestyle course for teenagers, and sunset Yooner outings. Private lessons start from age two and a half and group lessons from three. At the time of writing, the tourist office lists group lessons from €170 and private lessons from €45. The ESF can hand children over to the Club des Marmottes after their lesson, so they can have lunch and spend the afternoon there.
Where to stay
Everything in the station is close together, so the choice is less about distance to the lifts than about what kind of place you want. The tourist office's accommodation pages list the station's residences, apartments and chalets. Auris has free car parks at the entrance and in the station.
Auris en Oisans for families
The tourist office pitches Auris as a family station first. The Club-enfants Les Marmottes takes children from 4 to 12 in winter, with a crèche for 18 months to 3 years, by the day, half-day or week. At the time of writing the club lists a day from €24 to €54 and five days from €76 to €132, depending on the option, with a free trial on Monday mornings if there is space.

On the snow, there is a children's garden for the ESF's Piou-Piou lessons and a secured beginners' area, with a link between the ski school and the club. In the evenings the tourist office lists night sledging, the torchlit descent at the Show d'Auris, shows, cinema and concerts.
Things to do in Auris-en-Oisans
The Espace piscine, at the entrance to the station below the main square, the Place des Orgières, has an indoor pool heated to 27°C and three spas, with a south-facing solarium and a view of the Meije. It opens in winter and summer and runs aquagym sessions and swimming lessons.
For cross-country skiing, the Boucle de la Rochette is a 2 km loop on a plateau facing Alpe d'Huez, reached either on foot from the station, an 8 km round trip with 200 m of climbing via the Col de Maronne, or by the Auris Express chairlift with a pedestrian pass. The track is free, and the tourist office gives it as open from 5 December 2026 to 11 April 2027, snow permitting, from 9:00 to 17:00. From Auris the lifts also give access to the Alpe d'Huez Nordic area, with a separate cross-country pass bought on arrival there.
The tourist office also lists snowshoeing, winter walks and the Yooner, a seated sledge with a single ski.
Eating and drinking
The tourist office's restaurants and bars page lists the station's restaurants and bars and what is open.
How to get to Auris-en-Oisans
By car from Grenoble, follow the D1091 towards the Oisans resorts, carry on through Le Bourg-d'Oisans towards Les Deux Alpes, and turn left at Le Freney-d'Oisans onto the D211 for Auris. From Briançon, take the D1091 towards Grenoble and turn right at Le Freney-d'Oisans.
The tourist office strongly advises against the route many sat-navs suggest from Le Bourg-d'Oisans, the D211A, which it describes as an extremely narrow road on a drop, especially in winter. From 1 November to 31 March, cars must have four winter tyres or carry snow chains or socks for the driven wheels. There is an electric car charging point on the Place des Orgières.
Grenoble to Auris en Oisans
Grenoble is the nearest railway station. In winter, Transaltitude coaches run directly from Grenoble station to the Auris station; the tourist office says timetables and booking open online from November. All year, Cars Région runs Grenoble to Le Bourg-d'Oisans on line T75, but its "Auris-en-Oisans" stop is Le Clapier in the valley, not the station. Bensbus runs from Grenoble airport to Le Bourg-d'Oisans. Outside the coach periods, the tourist office points to the Oisans taxi firms, booked in advance.
Weather, snow and webcams
The station is at 1,600 m and its own lifts reach 2,176 m, with the rest of the Alpe d'Huez ski area higher still.
