In the village

Most of the village's restaurants open for the winter season in mid-December and close in April, and several open only in the evening in winter. The dates below are the ones published for 2026/27; check them before you go.

  • Neige et Roc, 255 route de Taninges. The hotel's restaurant cooks refined, gourmet food and holds the Maître Restaurateur title. In winter it opens for dinner only, from 19 December 2026 to 29 March 2027. It has a terrace and a children's menu.
  • Le Gai Soleil, 26 route de Taninges. A big Savoyard chalet in the centre, with a lounge bar and fireplace. The house dish is a Savoyard casserole, and non-residents are welcome. Dinner only in winter, from 18 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, closed on Wednesdays.
  • Brasserie Le Savoie, 108 place du Gros Tilleul. A brasserie on the main square with a terrace looking up at the Criou. Open daily from 11:00 to 23:00, from 11 December 2026 through the summer, when it also sells artisan Alpine ice cream.
  • La Marmotte Blanche, 10 place des 7 Monts. Home cooking and Savoyard dishes, including fondue, tartiflette and berthoud. Winter dinners Tuesday to Sunday, lunch on Wednesdays and Sundays, closed on Mondays, from 18 December 2026 to 11 April 2027.
  • La Table de Fifine, 612 chemin de la Cour. Modern bistro cooking in a Savoyard chalet, with home-made dishes and a fire. Dinner Tuesday to Saturday, lunch and dinner on Sunday, closed on Mondays, from 2 December 2026 to 18 April 2027.
  • La Boule de Neige, in Vercland. The hotel restaurant serves traditional Savoyard dishes and hot-stone cooking, with cocktails on the terrace. Open daily from 19 December 2026 to 11 April 2027.
  • Pizzeria La Chèvre, 728 route du Grand Massif. Pizzas to eat in or take away, plus salads and Savoyard dishes, with a mountain-view terrace. Its winter dates were not yet published when we checked.

Le Lodge, on the route de Sixt, is listed in the Michelin Guide, which shows it closed on Mondays and Tuesdays; it gives no season dates, so check before you go.

On the slopes

Samoëns's mountain restaurants cluster at Samoëns 1600, where the Grand Massif Express arrives. We could not confirm any restaurant at the Tête des Saix itself.

  • Au Pré d'Oscar, at the top of the Grand Massif Express. A bar and restaurant with a large sunny terrace, serving tartiflette, croziflette and diots, with mulled wine, beer and cocktails at the bar. Everything on the menu is made on site. It opens daily through the ski season, in the daytime. The ZigZag ski school meets in front of it.
  • La Demoiselle des Saix, on the Plateau des Saix. Traditional dishes, Savoyard specialities, burgers and pizzas, with home-made desserts and waffles. It stays open into the evening: daily from 07:30 to 22:30, from 13 December 2026 to 12 April 2027. Pizzas are available to take away.
  • Chalet l'Aéro, at 1,607 m on the pistes. Family cooking from mostly fresh produce, in a chalet you ski to and from. Book ahead.
  • Le 1600 Café, on the snow front opposite the sledge run. A bar with quick food and a terrace.

In summer, the refuge at the Lac de Gers serves simple local food, a walk of about two hours from the car park at the Pont de Lédedian. In winter you can ski to it from the Cascades run and walk the last 10 minutes, snow permitting; check with the refuge first.

Bars and après

  • Big Bear, 93 place du Criou. A lounge bar inside a concept store that also rents skis in winter and runs rafting in summer. Open from 16:00 to midnight, closed on Wednesdays, from 21 December 2026 to 19 April 2027.
  • The White Wolf, 46 rue de la Gare. A cocktail bar with more than 50 cocktails on the list. Open from 16:00 to 23:00, closed on Mondays, from 18 December 2026 to 16 May 2027.
  • Chez Jeff, 27 avenue Cognacq-Jaÿ. An après-ski bar with a heated outdoor bar, running since 2001. Its listing says it opens daily all year; check its hours before you go.

The hotels have bars too, including Le Gai Soleil's lounge with its fire.

Local food to try

Samoëns sits in dairy country: the valley's farms raise Abondance cattle, and the cheese comes to the table in fondue, tartiflette, raclette and berthoud. Diots, the Savoyard sausages, turn up on mountain menus.

Buying food

  • Sherpa, 224 rue des Billets. A supermarket with an in-store bakery and a regional produce counter, open daily. It lends fondue and raclette sets.
  • Fruitière des Hauts de Savoie, 502 avenue du Fer-à-Cheval. The dairy's own shop sells its Savoie cheeses, reblochon included, along with wine and sausages, and lends raclette and fondue sets.
  • Au Nid Nature, 81 place des 7 Monts. An independent organic grocer with local produce.

The Wednesday-morning market in the centre is the other place to stock up.
