La Tania is the quiet way into Les 3 Vallées: a car-free ski resort in a forest clearing at 1,400 m, part of Courchevel, with a gondola from the snow front into 600 km of linked pistes.

What is La Tania like?

La Tania is a small resort in a forest clearing at 1,400 m. The tourist office says it was designed from the start to blend into the landscape, with simple architecture and a family atmosphere, and its gondola and its ski school both date from 1990.

The centre is car-free. Everything gathers around the snow front: the gondola, the ski school, the lift-pass office, the tourist office on the Esplanade des Tornets, and a handful of restaurants and bars. The tourist office calls it small, calm and easy to find your way around.

La Tania is one of the six villages of the commune of Courchevel, so it shares Courchevel's lift pass, free buses and tourist office. It doesn't share the size of Courchevel 1850, 450 m higher up, or its five-star hotels.

La Tania suits you if you want a quiet base on one of the largest ski areas in the world, and you need no more evening life than a few bars.

Skiing in La Tania

The skiing starts at the snow front. The La Tania gondola climbs out of the village through the spruce forest to about 2,000 m, a ride the lift company puts at around ten minutes. A few strides from the top, the Dou des Lanches chairlift takes you on to the Col de la Loze at 2,304 m, the pass between the Courchevel and Méribel valleys.

The gondola has been renovated for this winter. First opened in 1990, it carries close to 400,000 passengers a season, and until now they stood. The lift company has replaced its 52 cabins with seated eight-person cabins with ski racks, modernised the stations, and says the lift reopens in December 2026.

Three runs bring you home from the top of the gondola. Plan Fontaine is a green of almost 4 km through the spruce, the Folyères is a blue through the forest, and the Moretta Blanche is a red. Coming back from Courchevel 1850, Les 3 Vallées suggests the Arolles run towards La Tania, then the Folyères.

La Tania ski area

La Tania sits on the Courchevel ski area, which the lift company puts at 150 km of pistes between 1,300 m and 2,740 m. That in turn is part of Les 3 Vallées, 600 km of linked pistes across Courchevel, Méribel, Brides-les-Bains, Val Thorens, Les Menuires, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville and Orelle.

La Tania is well placed for it. Méribel is two lifts away: from the Col de la Loze, the Pic Bleu and Boulevard blues run down into the Méribel valley. For Le Praz, the next village down, there is the red Murettes or the black Éclipse, a 3.2 km run built for the 2023 World Championships. Les 3 Vallées publishes an easy-blue day that starts through La Tania, crosses the Col de la Loze and Méribel to Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, and comes back to Courchevel.

La Tania piste map

The lift company publishes the Courchevel piste map, the full Les 3 Vallées map and a separate beginners' Minipass map as PDFs. The Les 3 Vallées app shows lift and piste openings live, and this winter adds a route planner that takes your level and the open runs into account.

La Tania lift passes

The Courchevel pass covers the whole Courchevel ski area, La Tania included; the 3 Vallées pass adds the rest. For 2026/27 in high season, from 19 December to 9 April, a six-day adult pass costs €385 for Courchevel and €421 for Les 3 Vallées, with six days priced as five. Children under five ski free on both, and over-75s ski free on the Courchevel pass.

The Family Flex pass charges everyone the child rate for one or two adults with one to six children under 18. Beginners can buy the Minipass at €39.50 a day, from ticket offices only; it doesn't link La Tania with Courchevel 1850.

La Tania has its own lift-pass office, open every day in season from 8:35, with a collection machine for passes bought online at the lift company's site.

La Tania ski hire

The tourist office lists two hire shops in the village: Intersport La Tania, in the Folyères building on the Esplanade des Tornets, and Skiset La Tania.

Ski lessons in La Tania

The ski school based in the village is the ESF La Tania, on the Esplanade des Tornets. It has 40 instructors, and for 2026/27 it opens from 5 December 2026 to 11 April 2027. It runs the Club Piou Piou for children of three to five, group lessons for children and adults, snowboard tasters, private lessons of two hours or more, and off-piste and ski-touring outings.

For a first day on skis, the ESF points to the Kodiak beginner area on the snow front, which it says is free and has two new carpet lifts, and a quieter zone at the top of the gondola, which needs a lift ticket.

Where to stay

The tourist office says La Tania's accommodation is close to the pistes: apartments in the residences of the pedestrian centre, and chalets, many of them a short walk from the pistes or the gondola.

The hotels include Le Montana, on La Tania's main run with 70 rooms and a spa, and Bârma, a new hotel and residence on the route de Praz-Juget that opens this winter. Beyond the hotels, the choice is an apartment or a chalet to rent.

La Tania for families

The tourist office describes La Tania as designed with a family atmosphere, and its La Tania office holds the national Famille Plus label. The car-free centre and the green run home are the obvious draws, but the useful detail is childcare.

The village crèche, the Halte-garderie La Tanière des Croès on the route de Praz-Juget, takes children from six months to four years, and up to five for half-days alongside ski lessons; under-18-month-olds come for half-days only. For 2026/27 it opens from 7 December 2026 to 16 April 2027, Sunday to Friday, 8:30 to 17:30, and is closed on Saturdays. You book through the Courchevel town hall's online family portal. From three, the ESF's Club Piou Piou takes over.

On lift passes, children under five ski free, and the Family Flex pass puts both parents on the child rate.

Things to do in La Tania

The village is small, so most things off the pistes are a bus ride away. Non-skiers can buy the Mid Mountain pedestrian ticket, €13 for 2026/27, for a ride on the La Tania gondola or the Verdons or Ariondaz lifts, and eat at Le Bouc Blanc at the top of the gondola. Between Courchevel 1850 and Courchevel Village, a 2 km toboggan run is lit for night runs. The free buses link La Tania with Courchevel's other villages, and you can follow them in real time on the Mobilité Courchevel app.

Eating and drinking

La Tania restaurants

Le Farçon, at the foot of the Folyères and Plan Fontaine runs, is Julien Machet's restaurant and holds a Michelin star. The tourist office says it serves lunch and dinner every day and runs a free minibus for diners. Machet also has the Bistrot Machet in the centre, where the tourist office describes simple cooking such as stews served in the pot.

La Ferme de La Tania on the snow front serves Savoyard specialities, meat and crêpes. La Taïga, across the main road from the Troika beginners' piste, has a lounge bar with an open fire downstairs and a restaurant upstairs, and stays open until 2 am. Le Ski Lodge is a pub-brasserie with happy hours, live music, live sport, burgers and fish and chips.

The two hotels have their own restaurants: La Table de Bârma on the snow front, and Le Montana's dining room, which serves a three-course dinner every evening. For supplies, Saveurs des Alpes sells regional produce, cheese, sandwiches, pizza and ready meals, and delivers.

On the mountain

Le Bouc Blanc sits at the top of the gondola at 2,000 m, with a terrace and Savoyard cooking. Le 1928, at the top of the Dou des Lanches chairlift, cooks produce from local suppliers, fresh fish and Savoyard dishes, and has a terrace too.

La Tania in summer

In summer the forest around the village becomes walking and mountain-biking country, with routes starting at the edge of the village. The tourist office's Circuit de la Nouvaz, open from May to October, starts by the route de Praz-Juget below the gondola, passes under a stone arch between two houses in the hamlet of La Nouvaz and loops back through the forest.

The lifts are the catch. The La Tania gondola wasn't on the lift company's summer 2026 timetable, which ran from 4 July to 30 August, so the nearest summer lift was the Praz gondola in Le Praz. The free buses run in summer too: in 2026, from 11 July to 30 August. The Col de la Loze above the village is a Tour de France climb, with stages in 2020, 2023 and 2025.

How to get to La Tania

By road, the tourist office describes motorway, then dual carriageway to Moûtiers, then a wide mountain road for about 30 minutes to Courchevel. It gives these distances to Courchevel: Chambéry 95 km (1h15), Grenoble 125 km (1h35), Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport 176 km (2h) and Geneva Airport 179 km (2h).

Moûtiers is the nearest railway station, and Altibus runs buses from Moûtiers, Chambéry, Lyon and Geneva.

Geneva to La Tania

Altibus's Alpskibus line runs from Geneva Airport to Moûtiers station, where you change for La Tania. At the time of writing fares started at €47, but the 2026/27 timetable had not been published, so check Altibus before you plan around it. For a private transfer, the tourist office lists taxi firms that run from Moûtiers station.

If you drive, the town hall's Parking Moretta in the village has 99 spaces and a 2.2 m height limit, and you pay by card on the way out. The tourist office also lists a campervan area at La Tania, open all year, with no services. Once you're here, you won't need the car.

Weather, snow and webcams

The village sits at 1,400 m and its lifts top out at the Col de la Loze, so the weather can differ a good deal between the two. The Col de la Loze has its own webcam, the one to check before you head up. The Les 3 Vallées snow report gives snow depths and recent snowfall resort by resort.

When to visit La Tania

For 2026/27 La Tania's lifts run from 5 December 2026 to 11 April 2027, inside Courchevel's season of 4 December to 18 April, and the whole of Les 3 Vallées links up from 5 December. Lift passes are cheaper before 19 December and after 9 April.

  • Early December: La Tania's lifts and the ESF open on 5 December, a day after the rest of Courchevel.
  • Christmas to March: high season. The tourist office advises booking ahead in the busiest periods, so book lessons and childcare early.
  • April: La Tania's lifts and the ESF close on 11 April; the rest of Courchevel runs to 18 April.
