Leogang is a village of more than 3,000 people at 788 m in the Leogang valley, in the Pinzgau region of Salzburg. As a ski resort it is one of the four names in the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn: 270 km of pistes and 70 lifts, reached from Leogang by the Asitzbahn and the Steinbergbahn.

It shares a tourist office with Saalfelden, has two railway stations, and in summer the same lifts serve Bikepark Leogang.

What is Leogang like?

Leogang sits at 788 m in a long valley basin, the Leoganger Tal, between the limestone Leoganger Steinberge and the Kitzbühel Alps. The tourist office gives its population as more than 3,000. It shares that tourist office, Saalfelden Leogang Touristik, with the town of Saalfelden down the valley.

The skiing starts from two valley stations: the Asitzbahn and the Steinbergbahn. The lift company, Leoganger Bergbahnen, calls them its two main access lifts. Both carry you up into the ski area on the Asitz, the mountain above the village, and the tourist office's Leogang circuit can start from either. The village also has two railway stations, Leogang and Leogang Steinberge, on the line through Saalfelden.

Leogang suits you if you want the Skicircus without staying in the Glemm valley, and if you like the idea of arriving by train.

Skiing in Leogang

Leogang's skiing is part of the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. Saalfelden Leogang Touristik gives it as 270 km of pistes, 70 lifts and 60 huts, the same piste and lift figures as the Saalbach Hinterglemm tourist office uses on the Hinterglemm guide. Saalfelden Leogang Touristik gives ski operation for 2026/27 as 27 November 2026 to 4 April 2027, subject to change.

The Ski ALPIN CARD covers the Skicircus plus the Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See and the Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun. Saalfelden Leogang Touristik puts the three together at 408 km of pistes and 121 lifts. Prices are on the winter ticket page.

Leogang ski area

The tourist office's Leogang circuit shows how the village links into the Skicircus and back. It starts on the L1 and L2 Asitzbahn, then the L5 Asitzgipfelbahn and L7 Sportbahn, before the I3 Schönleiten 6er takes you over towards Saalbach. From Saalbach the A1 and A2 Schattberg X-press and the I1 and I2 Schönleitenbahn start the way home, and the route list also includes the I4 Polten 8er and L6 Muldenbahn. The tourist office describes the first runs as flat, east-facing slopes in the Asitzmulde, followed by south-facing slopes on the Schönleiten and Kohlmais towards Saalbach. It gives the circuit as about 26 km and 11 lifts, and says it can also be started from the L3 and L4 Steinberg lift.

The same page lists a Saalbach circuit, a Hinterglemm circuit and a Tyrol circuit on the Tyrolean side of the Skicircus, all covered by the same lift pass. There is also a SkiMovie run off the L8 Alm lift, which films your run, and the tourist office's village page mentions the Nitro Snowpark.

Leogang piste map

The tourist office publishes an interactive Skicircus piste map with every lift, slope, hut and park, and it shows which lifts and slopes are open at the time. Use it to plan the circuit before you set off from the Asitz.

Leogang ski hire

Sport Mitterer is listed by the tourist office as a ski and bike hire shop, with winter outlets at the Asitzbahn and Steinbergbahn and, in summer, a base at the bike park. The tourist office says the outlet next to the valley stations stocks new skis to test and hire each season, and that you can reserve online. The rental listings cover the other shops in the area.

Ski schools in Leogang

SchneeSportSchule Asitz is listed by the tourist office in Leogang and offers children's courses, adult courses and private lessons. The tourist office's ski school listings cover the rest.

Where to stay in Leogang

Leogang accommodation is booked through the tourist office's search and book pages, which cover Leogang and Saalfelden. Partner hosts give guests the Saalfelden Leogang Card on arrival; it cannot be bought.

Among Leogang hotels, two give their own location relative to the lifts. Naturhotel Forsthofgut, at Hütten 2, is a family-run spa hotel on the slopes of the Asitz, with a 5,700 m² waldSPA and a family pool area. Puradies is a nature resort with a hotel and chalets on a plateau between the Steinberg and Asitz lifts, with separate family and adults-only spa areas.

For anywhere else, check the distance to the Asitzbahn or Steinbergbahn. The tourist office's walking-time table lists both valley stations from the railway stations, so check the route before you book.

Leogang for families

SchneeSportSchule Asitz runs children's ski courses as well as adult and private lessons. The lift data lists a practice lift at the Asitz, the Übungslift Asitz. Off the skis, the tourist office points to the toboggan run on the Asitz.

In summer the lift company calls the Asitz its "Berg der Sinne", or mountain of the senses, with a Sinne Park at the Asitzbahn's middle station. A free shuttle takes families back from the mountain to the Steinberg lift valley station and, on request, into the village near their accommodation.

Things to do in Leogang

The tourist office's list of things to do in Leogang starts on the Asitz, with the toboggan run. Cross-country tracks are on the lifts and slopes page, which says some are floodlit until 9 pm.

Off the mountain, the Bergbau- und Gotikmuseum Leogang covers the valley's mining history and shows medieval art across more than 1,000 m². The Flying Fox XXL starts from the Stöcklalm and runs 1.6 km across the valley at up to 130 km/h; check its page for operating dates.

Eating and drinking

The tourist office says Pinzgau cooking is substantial, from huts and inns to fine dining, and points to the culinary pages for the huts on the mountain. For regional produce it names the village shop in Leogang and the Saalachtaler Bauernladen farm shop. For Leogang restaurants in the village, the tourist office's A–Z listings give addresses and opening times.

Leogang in summer

Leogang in summer is mostly about bikes. Bikepark Leogang, run from the Asitz and Steinberg lifts, has lines from the top stations of both down through the forest, including the UCI World Championship and World Cup course. With Saalbach Hinterglemm and Fieberbrunn it forms a bike region the tourist office gives as more than 120 km of lines and trails on seven mountains, served by nine cable cars. For Leogang mountain biking beyond the park, see the tourist office's bike pages.

For Leogang hiking, the tourist office suggests taking the lift up the Asitz, with longer routes in the Leoganger Steinberge and on the grassy mountains around the valley. The Pinzgau long-distance trail, the Pingza Hatscha, runs 393 km in 15 stages. The Saalfelden Leogang Card, given free by partner hosts, includes a programme of guided activities through the year.

How to get to Leogang

From Salzburg to Leogang by train, Leogang has two stations, Leogang and Leogang Steinberge, where trains stop regularly; plan the journey on the ÖBB timetable. The tourist office also lists Innsbruck, Munich and Wörgl as rail hubs. Guests staying in Salzburg province get the Guest Mobility Ticket at check-in, valid on all public transport in the province.

By air, the tourist office names Salzburg, Innsbruck and Munich, with airport transfers to the region. By car from Munich, it gives two routes: via the Siegsdorf exit, Lofer and Saalfelden, or via the Oberaudorf exit, Kössen, Waidring and Fieberbrunn. Parking at the Asitz lift's P1 to P3 is free only with a valid, used lift ticket; P4 to P6 and the Steinberg lift car parks are free.

In the village, the on-demand Loigom-Shuttle, run by Salzburg Verkehr, is booked by app or phone.

Weather, snow and webcams

Saalfelden Leogang Touristik runs its own webcam, weather and snow report pages, and links to the avalanche report. Check them on the morning you ski, as the Asitz can differ from the valley floor.

When to visit Leogang

Ski operation in the Skicircus for 2026/27 is planned from 27 November 2026 to 4 April 2027, according to Saalfelden Leogang Touristik, and is subject to change. Ticket price bands and any changes to those dates are on the official ticket pages.

In summer, the bike park and the lifts on the Asitz bring a second season. Check the summer ticket page for operating dates.

Leogang vs Hinterglemm

Both villages are in the same Skicircus, on the same Ski ALPIN CARD. Hinterglemm is in the Glemm valley beyond Saalbach. Leogang is on the other side of the ridge, with its own valley, two railway stations and the Asitzbahn and Steinbergbahn. From Leogang the circuit to Saalbach and back is about 26 km on the tourist office's figures.

Leogang shares its tourist office with Saalfelden; Hinterglemm shares its with Saalbach. In summer both are in the same bike region.

Choose Leogang if you want to arrive by train and start your day on the Asitz.

Choose Hinterglemm if you want the Zwölferkogel, Hochalm and Reiterkogel on your doorstep.
