Corvara is the main village of Alta Badia, at 1,568 m below the Sella massif in South Tyrol, and as a ski resort it sits on the Sellaronda, the circuit of lifts and runs round the Sella group.
Two gondolas leave the village: the Boè towards the Sella and the Col Alto towards Pralongià. Both are on Alta Badia's 130 km of pistes, and the Dolomiti Superski pass adds 1,200 km across the Dolomites.
What is Corvara like?
Corvara is a village in Alta Badia, in the Ladin-speaking Dolomites of South Tyrol, at 1,568 m. The municipality uses the same name in all three of the province's languages: Comune di Corvara in Italian, Gemeinde Corvara in German and Comun de Corvara in Ladin.
It sits below the Sella massif. The tourist office calls it the place where the valley's tourism began: Alta Badia's first ski school and Italy's first lift facility were founded here in the 1930s.
The village has restaurants from mountain cooking to a Michelin star, patisseries, bars, shops, ski hire, a golf course for the summer and an ice rink. It is one of the two Alta Badia villages on the Sellaronda, with the rest of the valley's skiing on the same lifts.
Skiing in Corvara
Corvara skiing is part of the Alta Badia ski area, which the tourist office puts at 130 km of pistes between 1,300 m and 2,800 m, served by 54 lifts. Of those pistes, 74 km are blue, 47 km red and 9 km black. Alta Badia is part of Dolomiti Superski, which has 1,200 km of pistes and 450 lifts on one pass, and the tourist office counts at least 500 km of pistes you can reach on skis from the valley.

For 2026/27 the Alta Badia season is due to run from 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027. The tourist office also says that from this season a helmet is compulsory on all slopes, whatever your age.
Corvara ski area
Two gondolas leave the village. The Boè is an eight-seat gondola run by Skicarosello Corvara, climbing from Corvara to the foot of the Sella massif; the Vallon chairlift is in the same Corvara group, and the tourist office names the Vallon–Boè black run among the area's signature descents. The other village gondola is the Col Alto. The tourist office lists further Corvara lifts including the Pralongià, Braia Fraida and Costoratta chairlifts, and the Alta Badia pass covers San Cassiano, La Villa, Colfosco and Badia on the same lifts.
The Sellaronda from Corvara
The Sellaronda is the circuit round the Sella group. The Alta Badia tourist office gives it as about 40 km, 26 km of it on pistes, with around two hours on lifts and an hour and a half of skiing: allow about six hours. It crosses four passes, the Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella and Gardena, and five resorts: Corvara and Colfosco in Alta Badia, Arabba, Canazei and Selva di Val Gardena.
You can ski it either way: orange signs mark the clockwise route, green the anticlockwise. The runs suit intermediates in good condition. From Corvara, the Passo Campolongo and Arabba are one way round, Colfosco and the Passo Gardena towards Selva di Val Gardena the other. Check which pass covers it before you buy.
Corvara piste map
The tourist office publishes the Alta Badia ski map as a PDF (the 2025/26 edition at the time of writing). Its lifts, slopes and snow page lists the Corvara lifts and shows which are open on the day.
Corvara lift pass
There are two main choices. The Alta Badia pass covers the 130 km of pistes across Corvara, Colfosco, San Cassiano, La Villa and Badia. The Dolomiti Superski pass covers the whole Dolomiti Superski area. Each village has a ski pass office, Corvara among them, and passes bought online at least two days ahead were 5% cheaper at the time of writing. The Ikon Pass also gives access to Dolomiti Superski. Prices change with dates and length of stay, so we do not quote them: see the tourist office's ski pass page.
Corvara ski hire
Ski Service Lift Col Alto, at Str. Col Alt 99 beside the Col Alto gondola, rents skis and offers ski service and a ski depot. The Corvara ski school also runs its own rental centre and depot.
Ski school Corvara
The Corvara Ski & Snowboard School Ladinia, at Str. Burjé 8, was the first ski school in the Val Badia and has been teaching for more than 80 years. It runs group and private lessons for adults and children in skiing, snowboarding, freestyle, telemark and racing; the tourist office notes that some of its instructors are former racers and coaches of the Italian national team.
Where to stay
The tourist office's Corvara accommodation search covers hotels and guesthouses, apartments and residences, B&Bs (garni), chalets and farm stays. The choice that matters most is which of the two village gondolas, the Boè or the Col Alto, you want to be near.
Corvara hotels
Hotel La Perla, on Str. Col Alt, holds the village's Michelin-starred restaurant. The tourist office also lists family-run hotels in the village, among them Hotel Maria, Hotel Villa Eden and Hotel Greif.
Corvara apartments and chalets
Apartments, residences and chalets each have their own category in the tourist office search, which filters by date.
Corvara for families
The ski school teaches children in groups and privately. Note the helmet rule: from 2026/27 helmets are compulsory on Alta Badia's slopes at every age.

Things to do in Corvara
Off the pistes, Corvara has a cross-country trail of 4.2 km that starts beside the ski school and runs gently across the meadows to Pescosta; it is graded easy and takes about 52 minutes. The village also has an ice rink, shops and patisseries.
Eating and drinking
Corvara restaurants
La Stüa de Michil, in Hotel La Perla at Str. Col Alt 105, has one Michelin star under chef Simone Cantafio, who previously ran a two-star kitchen in Hokkaido. It is one of two starred restaurants the tourist office lists in Alta Badia. The village's other restaurants, bars and patisseries are in the tourist office's listings; on the mountain, Alta Badia's huts are marked on the ski map.
Corvara in summer
The walks from the valley climb towards Piz Boè and the Sella. Summer lifts carry walkers to higher starting points. Corvara also has a golf course. Check the tourist office's hiking pages for routes and summer lift dates.
How to get to Corvara
By car, roads reach Alta Badia from the Brenner in South Tyrol, from Lienz in Austria, and from Cortina d'Ampezzo or Agordo to the south. Winter tyres or snow chains are required in winter.
By train, the nearest station is Brunico (Bruneck), just over 30 km away, with buses to the valley several times a day; Bressanone and Bolzano are about 65 km away. The South Tyrol Guest Pass covers regional public transport.
Bolzano airport is the nearest, with SkyAlps flights from London among other cities. Venice, Treviso, Verona, Bergamo, Milan, Innsbruck and Munich are the other options. An airport shuttle runs from Thursday to Sunday, and local taxis belong to the Alta Badia taxi consortium.
Innsbruck to Corvara
Innsbruck is one of the airports the tourist office lists, and its airport shuttle and the consortium taxis both run transfers. By road, the way in from the north is over the Brenner into South Tyrol; check the shuttle's current timetable before booking flights.
Weather, snow and webcams
Corvara is at 1,568 m and the ski area climbs to 2,800 m, so conditions at the top can be very different from the village. The tourist office runs all three feeds; its forecasts come from the provincial weather service.

When to visit Corvara
For 2026/27 the Alta Badia lifts are due to run from 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027. In summer the lifts serve walkers; the tourist office publishes the dates.
