Colfosco is a ski village in Alta Badia, at 1,645 m on the road up to the Passo Gardena in South Tyrol, and it sits on the Sellaronda, the circuit of lifts and runs round the Sella group.

Its own lift company runs the Plans-Frara lifts to the pass, the Col Pradat gondola below the Sassongher, the Colfosco gondola over beginner slopes, and the Borest lift that links the village with Corvara.

What is Colfosco like?

Colfosco is an Alta Badia village at 1,645 m, on the road that climbs from Corvara to the Passo Gardena. It is not a municipality of its own but a fraction of Corvara; the comune's website calls it Kolfuschg in German and Calfosch in Ladin.

The Sella massif is on one side and the Sassongher and the Puez-Odle peaks on the other. The tourist office lists the Pisciadù waterfalls, the Tridentina via ferrata and the Val Mezdì among the things on its doorstep. The village itself is small: hotels, guesthouses and apartments, a few shops, a ski school and a set of lifts run by its own company, Impianti Colfosco.

The point of Colfosco is where it sits on the mountain. Its own lifts climb to the Passo Gardena and Val Gardena, and its lower slopes suit beginners.

Skiing in Colfosco

Colfosco skiing is part of the Alta Badia ski area, which the tourist office puts at 130 km of pistes served by 54 lifts, with 74 km of blue, 47 km of red and 9 km of black. Alta Badia is part of Dolomiti Superski, which puts 1,200 km of pistes on one pass.

For 2026/27 the Alta Badia season is due to run from 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, and the tourist office says that from this season a helmet is compulsory on all its slopes at every age.

Colfosco ski area

Impianti Colfosco runs four lifts from the village. The Plans and Frara lifts climb in two sections from Colfosco to just above the Passo Gardena (2,121 m), at the foot of the Cir peaks. The tourist board calls it a particularly important link on the Sellaronda. The Col Pradat gondola, an eight-seater, goes up to the hill of the same name at the foot of the Sassongher; two runs come down from the top, one easy and one harder. The Colfosco gondola, also an eight-seater, rises from the sunny Stella Alpina valley and serves several slopes, many of them suitable for beginners.

The fourth is the Borest lift, which connects Colfosco and Corvara and is the Sellaronda's way between the two villages. From Corvara the Boè and Col Alto gondolas lead on to the rest of Alta Badia, so San Cassiano, La Villa and Badia are all on the same lifts and the same pass.

The Sellaronda from Colfosco

The Sellaronda is the circuit round the Sella group. The Alta Badia tourist office gives it as about 40 km, 26 km of it on pistes, with around two hours on lifts and an hour and a half of skiing: allow about six hours. It crosses four passes, the Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella and Gardena, and five resorts: Corvara and Colfosco in Alta Badia, Arabba, Canazei and Selva di Val Gardena. Orange signs mark the clockwise route, green the anticlockwise.

From Colfosco, the Plans and Frara lifts take you up to the Passo Gardena, and from the pass the lifts and runs carry on to the Dantercepies area above Selva di Val Gardena. The other way, the Borest lift takes you to Corvara for the Passo Campolongo and Arabba. Check which pass covers the circuit before you buy.

Colfosco piste map

The tourist office publishes the Alta Badia ski map as a PDF, the 2025/26 edition at the time of writing; Colfosco's lifts are on it with Corvara's. Its lifts, slopes and snow page can be filtered to Colfosco and shows what is open on the day.

Lift passes

The Alta Badia pass covers the valley's 130 km of pistes; the Dolomiti Superski pass covers the whole Dolomiti Superski area, Val Gardena included. Colfosco has its own ski pass office at Str. Sotdlijia 13, and the tourist office says the village offices are open every day from December. Prices depend on dates and length of stay, so we do not quote them: see the tourist office's ski pass page.

Colfosco ski hire

Sport Pescosta, at Str. Col Pradat 45 in the centre of the village, rents and repairs skis and sells sportswear. The Colfosco ski school also runs its own rental and ski depot.

Ski school Colfosco

The Ski and Snowboard School Colfosco is at Str. Sotdlijia 17, on the Sellaronda. It runs group courses for children, teenagers and adults, private lessons and ski safaris, and has its own bistro, La Scola. Check its website for 2026/27 course dates.

Where to stay

The tourist office's Colfosco accommodation search covers hotels, guesthouses, B&Bs, apartments and farm stays, and filters by date. The village is small enough that most addresses are a short walk from one of the lifts; the choice that matters is whether you want to be nearer the Plans-Frara lifts for the pass or the Colfosco gondola and the beginner slopes.

Colfosco hotels

The tourist office's Colfosco listing includes Mountain Hotel Mezdí, Garden Wellness Pension and Guesthouse Haus Erica among its hotels and guesthouses, and Declara B&B and Apartments among the B&Bs.

Colfosco apartments

Apartments and residences make up a large share of the listing, among them Residence Bondí.

Colfosco for families

For first-timers, the Colfosco gondola serves slopes the tourist board describes as mostly suitable for beginners, and the Kids Funpark Colfosco sits in the large beginner area by the Pezzei ski lift on Str. Altonn, with arches, jumps, snow tunnels and obstacles to teach the basics of skiing and snowboarding. The ski school runs group courses for children. Remember the helmet rule: from 2026/27 it applies at every age.

Things to do in Colfosco

Corvara, a lift ride away, has an ice rink and more shops.

Eating and drinking

Colfosco restaurants

On the mountain, Ütia Col Pradat is a hut above the Stella Alpina valley at the foot of the Sassongher, reached on skis or with a short walk in winter. It lists dinner by reservation on Thursday evenings, reached by snowcat. In the village, the ski school's La Scola bistro is on the Sellaronda. The tourist office's listings cover the rest; for a Michelin-starred dinner, La Stüa de Michil is down the road in Corvara.

Colfosco in summer

Colfosco is a walking base for the Puez-Odle nature park, the Val Mezdì, the Pisciadù waterfalls and the Tridentina via ferrata on the Sella. For summer 2026 the Plans and Frara lifts ran from 13 June to 27 September, Col Pradat to 4 October and the Colfosco gondola and the Borest lift to 20 September. The tourist office's hiking pages have routes.

How to get to Colfosco

Colfosco is reached through Corvara. By car, roads come into Alta Badia from the Brenner, from Lienz in Austria, and from Cortina d'Ampezzo or Agordo to the south; the road on from Colfosco over the Passo Gardena leads to Val Gardena. Check winter road conditions with the provincial traffic service before using the pass.

By train, the nearest station is Brunico (Bruneck), about 30 km away, with buses into the valley. The South Tyrol Guest Pass covers regional public transport.

Bolzano is the nearest airport. Verona, Venice, Treviso, Innsbruck and Munich are the alternatives, each with taxi, shuttle or public transport connections.

Innsbruck to Colfosco

Innsbruck is one of the airports the tourist office lists. The route by road is over the Brenner into South Tyrol, then into the Val Badia; the Alta Badia airport shuttle and the local taxi consortium run transfers, so check the shuttle's current timetable before booking flights.

Weather, snow and webcams

Colfosco is at 1,645 m and the Passo Gardena is above 2,100 m, so the top of the Plans-Frara lifts can be very different from the village. The Alta Badia tourist office runs all three feeds below.

When to visit Colfosco

For 2026/27 the Alta Badia lifts are due to run from 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027. In summer the Colfosco lifts serve walkers and mountain bikers.

Colfosco vs Corvara

The two villages share a comune, a ski area and the Sellaronda, and the Borest lift joins them.
