Peisey-Vallandry is a ski resort of several villages above the Tarentaise valley, on the Les Arcs / Peisey-Vallandry ski area. From Plan-Peisey the Vanoise Express crosses to La Plagne in four minutes, which puts the whole of Paradiski, 425 km of linked pistes, on the doorstep.

The ski villages are Plan-Peisey and Vallandry, at 1,650 m and 1,600 m. Below them sit the old village of Peisey, the hamlet of Nancroix and Landry, with the railway station.

What is Peisey-Vallandry like?

Peisey-Vallandry is not one village but several, spread up a side valley of the Tarentaise between Les Arcs and La Plagne. The tourist office describes six: Landry at 780 m, at the entrance to the valley, with the railway station; Peisey at 1,320 m, the historic capital of the commune; the hamlet of Moulin, on the GR5 long-distance footpath; Nancroix at 1,450 m, the way into the Rosuel valley and the Vanoise National Park; and the two ski villages, Vallandry at 1,600 m and Plan-Peisey at 1,650 m.

Plan-Peisey and Vallandry are where the lifts and the snow fronts are. Plan-Peisey, in the tourist office's words, is the tourist hub of the resort, with direct access to the slopes. Vallandry, in the commune of Landry, is the family-sized one next door.

The lower villages are linked to the resort by a free shuttle network that runs in winter and summer, and Peisey village's own lift, the Lonzagne, is being rebuilt. Much of the ski area here is forest: larch and fir, which the tourist office points to as the place to ski when the upper slopes disappear in bad light.

Skiing in Peisey-Vallandry

Peisey-Vallandry shares its ski area with Les Arcs. The Les Arcs tourist office puts the Les Arcs / Peisey-Vallandry ski area at 200 km of pistes, rising to a single summit at 3,226 m, the Aiguille Rouge. The Peisey-Vallandry tourist office says 70% of the mountain area is above 2,000 m.

The Vanoise Express cable car leaves from Plan-Peisey and crosses the valley to La Plagne in four minutes, joining the two halves of Paradiski: Les Arcs, Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne, 425 km of linked pistes in all, with two skiable glaciers.

From the villages, the ESF meeting points give a sense of the layout: one ski school meets at the foot of the Peisey chairlift in Plan-Peisey, another at the bottom of the Vallandry lift. Above the trees, the tourist office lists two peaks over 3,000 m and four ski-touring routes, two of them marked trails in Peisey-Vallandry.

Peisey-Vallandry ski area

The tourist office names three forest runs: the Forêt and the Rhodos, both blue, and the Aigle, a red. For children there is the Pitchouns Forest area among the trees. It also lists three progression areas for beginners, one of them at the top of the Vallandry gondola.

Across the Vanoise Express the whole of La Plagne's side of Paradiski opens up. The tourist office's winter page gives the area's range as 1,200 m to 3,226 m.

The tourist office links to the Les Arcs / Peisey-Vallandry trail map as a download. The lift company's free Yuge app gives live information on lifts and runs across Paradiski.

Peisey-Vallandry lift passes

Passes are sold by the lift company, ADS, on the Les Arcs / Peisey-Vallandry pass site. The choice is between a pass for Les Arcs / Peisey-Vallandry and one for the whole of Paradiski; the tourist office also mentions the Essential Pass, which covers the main sights of Les Arcs, Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne. Prices for 2026/27 are on the lift company's site; check them there rather than relying on last season's.

Peisey-Vallandry ski hire

The tourist office's ski-hire listing covers shops in both ski villages. In Vallandry, Intersport Vallandry offers downhill ski hire, with a ski locker for the rental period, ski and snowboard servicing and pushchair rental in winter. Vallandry Sport 2000, in the Centre Commercial Vallandry, and Skiset Funski, in Vallandry and reachable on skis, also rent downhill skis.

Ski school in Peisey-Vallandry

The ESF has taught skiing in the valley since 1938. It has two bases: the ESF Plan Peisey, at the foot of the Peisey chairlift, and the ESF Vallandry, at the bottom of the Vallandry lift. The ESF says it has 150 instructors and teaches skiing, snowboarding, off-piste, freestyle, telemark, Nordic skiing, ski touring and handiski. Its own site is esf-peiseyvallandry.com.

Evolution2 Peisey-Vallandry is a smaller school that the tourist office lists for private lessons for one to six people, off-piste, and evening introductory ski-touring sessions, which need you to be able to ski a blue run. The tourist office's ski-school listing also includes the mountain guides' office and independent instructors.

Where to stay

Most accommodation is in Plan-Peisey and Vallandry, on the snow. The tourist office runs a booking service, Peisey-Vallandry Réservation, for accommodation, lessons and passes together.

Peisey-Vallandry accommodation

The tourist office lists a handful of hotels and holiday villages. Hôtel La Vanoise, in the resort at 1,650 m, has 32 rooms and sells half board, with a heated pool, sauna, hammam, jacuzzi and gym for guests. Down in Peisey village, Hôtel Chalet La Tarine has 20 rooms about 150 m from the lift up to the resort, with a basement bar open in winter.

Peisey-Vallandry chalets and apartments

The tourist office lists apartments, chalets, residences, campsites and group accommodation separately on its accommodation pages, along with the estate agencies that let them.

Peisey-Vallandry for families

The tourist office pitches Vallandry as family-friendly. There are three beginners' areas, one at the top of the Vallandry gondola, the Pitchouns Forest children's area, and two ESF bases. Intersport Vallandry rents pushchairs in winter. The free shuttles link the villages, so you don't need the car once you're here.

Things to do in Peisey-Vallandry

Off the pistes, the Rosuel Nordic area at Pont Baudin has about 43 km of cross-country trails for skating and classic, with a biathlon stadium and permanent shooting range. It is about ten minutes' drive from the resort, and the trails also suit snowshoeing.

The Mountain Animal Museum, created with the Vanoise National Park, presents more than thirty Alpine species, ibex, chamois and ptarmigan among them, in 120 m². The Baroque sanctuary of Notre-Dame des Vernettes can be reached on skis or snowshoes, a 6 km round trip with 200 m of climb from the resort, and is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm in winter. The Balcon sur la Vanoise, a viewpoint at 2,300 m from the 2300 chairlift, has deckchairs and binoculars.

The tourist office also lists sledging, paragliding, reindeer-sleigh rides and visits to farms and dairies making Beaufort and raclette.

Eating and drinking

The tourist office lists restaurants in each village. In Plan-Peisey, Chez Félix has a south-facing terrace and bar, with Savoyard fondues, brasserie dishes and crêpes. Le Bistrot Savoyard is a mountain brasserie on the Vallandry snow front, at the gondola, with a terrace. In Peisey village, Le Bachal serves Savoyard specialities and home-made pizzas, 150 m from the lift at Le Villaret.

Peisey-Vallandry in summer

In summer the lifts open for walkers and mountain bikers. The tourist office counts more than 450 km of walking trails and a 151 km bike park, with about ten lifts that take bikes. Free activities include tennis, beach volleyball and a disc-golf course, with discs lent by the tourist office. The Rosuel valley is the way into the Vanoise National Park, France's first, created in 1963, with marmots, chamois and ibex on the trails. For 2026 the Les Arcs summer season ran from 13 June to 13 September.

How to get to Peisey-Vallandry

By road, take the motorway to Albertville, the expressway towards Bourg-Saint-Maurice as far as Landry, then about 10 km of mountain road. Winter equipment is compulsory. Free parking is at the entrance to the resort.

By train, the nearest station is Landry, between Aime-la-Plagne and Bourg-Saint-Maurice, 10 km from the resort. From the UK, the tourist office points to the Eurostar Snow on Saturdays from London St Pancras, changing at Lille for Landry, or Eurostar and TGV via Paris or Lille. From Landry, Altibus runs a winter shuttle that must be booked in advance on Altibus, and the tourist office lists taxis.

Geneva to Peisey-Vallandry

The tourist office gives these road distances: Chambéry airport about 110 km (1 hr 45), Grenoble about 180 km (2 hr 15), Geneva about 190 km (2 hr 30) and Lyon Saint-Exupéry about 200 km (2 hr 30). Altibus runs from the airports to Bourg-Saint-Maurice or Landry, and you can also take the train from Geneva or Lyon.

Weather, snow and webcams

The villages sit at 1,600 m to 1,650 m and the lifts go above 3,000 m, so check the forecast for the altitude you're skiing. The tourist office gives forecasts at three levels and runs webcams including one on the Vanoise Express.

When to visit Peisey-Vallandry

For 2026/27 Paradiski gives the linked season as 12 December 2026 to 17 April 2027; the Les Arcs tourist office gives the Les Arcs season as 12 December 2026 to 24 April 2027.

The Lonzagne lift from Peisey village is being rebuilt: the tourist office says its old "baskets" are being replaced by a gondola with ten-seat cabins, due to open for the Christmas holidays of 2026. In the meantime, check the tourist office's shuttle information for Peisey village.
