Zürs am Arlberg is a ski village of about 150 inhabitants at 1,717 m on the Flexen Pass road in Vorarlberg. Its ski area is Lech Zürs, the middle of Ski Arlberg: Der Weisse Ring passes through the village, the Madloch leads over to Lech, and the Flexenbahn gondola links Zürs with Rauz for Stuben, St. Christoph and St. Anton.

What is Zürs like?

Zürs am Arlberg is a small village on the Flexen Pass road in Vorarlberg, at 1,717 m, with about 150 inhabitants. With Lech it makes up the Lech Zürs ski region at the centre of Ski Arlberg.

It has a claim on skiing history. The tourist office records that Viktor Sohm held a ski course for locals here in 1906, one of the earliest documented, and that Austria's first T-bar lift was built in Zürs in 1937.

The village is built for skiing. The tourist office says every hotel in Zürs is ski-in, ski-out, and counts 16 four- and five-star hotels and guesthouses. The lift company calls Zürs Austria's snowiest winter sports resort, measured by total daily snowfall. The tourist office describes it as known for open spaces, discretion, off-piste skiing and heliskiing.

Zürs suits you if you want a hotel on the piste, the resort Ski Arlberg calls Austria's snowiest, and the Flexenbahn across to the St. Anton side, and don't need a large village around you.

Skiing in Zürs

Zürs skiing is part of the Lech Zürs ski area, which is in turn the middle of Ski Arlberg. Ski Arlberg gives 300 km of pistes, more than 200 km of off-piste powder runs and 85 lifts, and calls itself Austria's largest ski area. Its figure for natural snowfall in Lech Zürs is an average of nine metres a season.

The Trittalp cable car, the Flexenbahn and the Seekopf lift all leave from Zürs.

Zürs ski area

Zürs sits on Der Weisse Ring, the 22 km circuit with 5,500 vertical metres that links Lech, Zürs, Zug and Oberlech. From Lech you arrive by the Rüfikopf cable car and the runs to the Schüttboden lift and the Trittalp. To go the other way, the Madlochbahn climbs to the Madlochjoch at 2,450 m, and several runs descend from there towards Zug and Lech. The tourist office names the red Madloch-Zürsersee and Zürser Täli among the area's best runs.

The Flexenbahn gondola runs from Zürs to Rauz and joins Lech Zürs to Stuben, St. Christoph and St. Anton. The Auenfeldjet, from Lech, links to Warth-Schröcken. Together they carry the RUN of FAME, which the lift company calls the longest ski circuit in the Alps: 85 km from St. Anton via Stuben, Zürs, Lech and Schröcken to Warth and back, over the Arlberg, Flexen and Hochtannberg passes. Check the closing times of the link lifts before you set off.

For the more than 200 km of off-piste, the tourist office lists the kit to carry: helmet, avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe, first-aid kit and bivouac sack.

Zürs piste map

Ski Arlberg publishes an interactive piste map for Lech Zürs with live lift and piste information, and marks every connecting route between St. Anton and Lech on it. Ski Arlberg also has an app.

Lift passes

Passes cover all of Ski Arlberg, from Zürs and Lech to St. Anton, Stuben and Warth. For 2026/27, an adult day costs €85 and six days €468 in the main season, from 19 December 2026 to 2 April 2027. From 2 to 18 December and from 3 to 18 April, a day costs €80.50 and six days €395. Children born between 2011 and 2018 pay €276 for six days in the main season. Passes are on chip cards with a €5 deposit, refunded when you hand the card back. Check the official price list before you buy.

Ski hire

Sporthaus Strolz Zürs, at Zürs 205, is the Zürs branch of Strolz and rents skis as well as selling them.

Ski schools in Zürs

Skischule Zürs teaches in groups and privately, and its guides are booked by the full day, on and off the pistes. Its children's world, with Bocki the ibex, takes children from four, with lunch care and a final race on Friday with an award ceremony. Ski Arlberg runs one of the area's three children's areas in Zürs, with moving carpets and supervision.

Where to stay in Zürs

The tourist office counts 16 four- and five-star hotels and guesthouses in Zürs and says all of them are ski-in, ski-out. For a wider spread of prices, apartments and chalets, Lech is the larger village along the road: see our Lech guide.

Zürs hotels

  • Grand Resort Zürserhof, a five-star superior hotel on the slopes, run by the same family for 70 years in 2025 and a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. The tourist office lists a spa of about 3,200 m², with an adults-only area and a family spa.
  • Hotel Edelweiss, in Zürs since 1856, with the Zürserl bar and the Flexenhäusl restaurant at 1,773 m, the highest point of the Flexen road.

The tourist office's accommodation search covers the rest of the village's hotels and guesthouses.

Zürs for families

The Zürs children's area is one of three in Lech Zürs, with moving carpets, figures to ski around and supervision. Skischule Zürs takes children from four in its children's world. Ski Arlberg's family park, fun slope and snow park are in the Lech Zürs area; the highlights page lists them.

Things to do in Zürs

Zürs is a ski village first. Non-skiers can buy Ski Arlberg's Sunshine Subscription, valid on selected lifts, and the Trittkopf BBQ Station, in the former Trittkopf cable-car top station of 1962 at 2,423 m, can be reached by lift without skis. The lift company says many guests describe the Flexenbahn ride to Rauz as "cinematic". The photopoint at 2,173 m takes a panoramic photo when you scan your ski pass.

Eating and drinking

Zürs restaurants

The Zürserhof serves half-board to its guests in its "culinarium", and the Edelweiss runs the Zürserl bar. On the Flexen road, the Flexenhäusl has a parlour of 20 seats; in winter it opens Tuesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner, and the tourist office notes that tables are limited.

On the mountain, the Trittkopf BBQ Station cooks ribs, pulled pork and Black Angus burgers at 2,423 m.

Zürs in summer

In summer, one lift runs from Zürs: the Seekopfbahn, which in 2026 ran Tuesday to Sunday from late July to 4 October, up towards the Zürsersee lake. The Lech Card covers the summer lifts and local buses across Lech Zürs; the tourist office lists summer lift times.

How to get to Zürs

Zürs is on the Flexen Pass road between the Arlberg and Lech. The nearest railway stations are Langen am Arlberg, 15 km from Lech Zürs, with bus line 750 in about 20 minutes, and St. Anton am Arlberg, 20 km away, with line 760 in about 30 minutes. In winter, the blue local bus between the parts of Lech Zürs is included in your ski pass in the day, and the James night bus runs to Zürs until about 2:00.

Innsbruck to Zürs

Innsbruck is the nearest airport, about 120 km away over the Arlberg Pass. Friedrichshafen is 130 km, Memmingen 160 km and Zurich 190 km. From Zurich Airport, trains run to Langen am Arlberg every two hours in about three hours. Der Lecher and Arlberg Express, both listed by the tourist office, run transfers from the airports to Lech and Zürs.

Weather, snow and webcams

Zürs is at 1,717 m and the Madlochjoch at 2,450 m, so check conditions at the top as well as in the village.

When to visit Zürs

Ski Arlberg's 2026/27 season runs from 2 December 2026 to 18 April 2027.

  • Early December and April: the lower-priced weeks, from 2 to 18 December and from 3 to 18 April.
